There might be more Chinese speakers in the world, but there are far more countries that use English. Outside of China you're going to have an easier time finding someone who speaks some limited English compared to someone who speaks some Chinese be it Mandarin or Cantonese.

Plus, if I recall correctly, LPSG is hosted in California. So really it would be more prudent for you to learn English.

Sorry if I sound snippy, it's just always been a pet peeve of mine when someone says "Why do I have to learn Y language? Why can't you learn X language?" I believe that any time you're going to any foreign country where the official language isn't your mother tongue you should at least try to learn some of it, if I were thinking about going to Israel I wouldn't step foot on a plane before I learned a few words of Hebrew and some Arabic.

Oh, for the learning Chinese, don't hold your breath. English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portugese use the same alphabet and share many words. Others use similar ones. What is more likely is Chinese will adopt a western version of the alphabet.

I suppose my "problem", as you put it, is the surprising amount of ignorance, as well as increasing rudeness, in your questions. To presume that an older man is incapable of an erection at any time of day is preposterous. Like any body function, say muscle mass, with time they may not be as "strong", but certainly, they function.

As to English being an "easy" language language, as opposed to, say, German, a highly organized one which has relatively few idioms, it most apparently is not. And since most business transactions are conducted in English, and it is known as the "language of money", I suggest you polish up yours.

You forget something. Chinese is maybe the most spoken language around the world, but most of the people who speak chinese are the ones living in China... outside China there isn't much use of Chinese compared to English..

This is true Pieter. When I was in China, I was approached by dozens of students who wanted to practice their Chinese-English (Chinglish) on me. They said their instructors were Chinese, and that they rarely had the opportunity to improve their pronunciation with native-speakers. From what I have seen around the world, English is the language of business...even for the Chinese...and MUCH easier to learn that Chinese.
