There might be more Chinese speakers in the world, but there are far more countries that use English. Outside of China you're going to have an easier time finding someone who speaks some limited English compared to someone who speaks some Chinese be it Mandarin or Cantonese.what is your problem.
you should begin learing chinese becouse 1 billion ppl around the world speak it and just 380 mio ppl around the world does it with english.
Plus, if I recall correctly, LPSG is hosted in California. So really it would be more prudent for you to learn English.
Sorry if I sound snippy, it's just always been a pet peeve of mine when someone says "Why do I have to learn Y language? Why can't you learn X language?" I believe that any time you're going to any foreign country where the official language isn't your mother tongue you should at least try to learn some of it, if I were thinking about going to Israel I wouldn't step foot on a plane before I learned a few words of Hebrew and some Arabic.
