On a few occasions, I've started out with doggie-style and then progressed into a few variations. One is what you describe, reverse missionary (sort of.) Start doggie-style and if she puts her arms and head down, you are on you way. We had plenty of room in front of her so when I slowly and gently pushed her hips down, she could slid forward without wacking her head on the headboard (very important!). It is also important to continue your in-and-out motions while slowly moving down, until she is lying down on her front side. As it is done in a slow and smooth manner, I never popped out and was able to keep on going once we down on the bed. it is definitely a different sensation. And if you and she are into anal, well I think you can take it from there.

Another variation was to start doggie and then lean back onto my lower legs and feet, drawing her body up at the same time. I agree with some of the other posts that you need to be careful. When my girl friend is pretty much orgasmed out, I like to finish up doggie becuase it feels really good to me and I tend to come pretty fasted doing it that way.

Only one time did she find it pretty uncomfortable. However, it took her a long time to want to try it because her ex husband turned out to be gay and the concept of doing it from behind creeped her out.

I posted about something similar just a few minutes ago. My husband and I have been together for years and doggie style just doesn't work for us. We've tried it but he has to be so careful about hitting my cervix it really doesn't make it fun. For me it is not about how deep you can go, I bottom out regularly with dildos and have no problem with pain. It is how the cervix is hit. I just think it is how my husband and I fit together...doggie doesn't work.

Maybe instead of going straight to doggie try it bent over a bench or standing up, it will change the angles and she might be more comfortable.
