Donald Trump, Jr.:
"If I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you. Would you take a handful? “That’s our Syrian refugee problem.”
Thing is, the actual chance of dying from eating too many skittles is probably higher than the chance of being blown up in the US. Obesity kills. Similarly I imagine it is much more likely you will be killed or injured by police than by terrorists.
Trump is no doubt popular because he speaks his mind. Even people who do not like what comes out probably respect that he says what he thinks. With the established politicians, what you are certain about is that they never say anthing they think would upset voters, however much they really think it. Every time he sounds off and says something wild, it is a reminder to voters that maybe this is what all the others really think too.
Exactly the same psychology applied in the Uk referendum debate. The Leave campaign was eternally spouting a false figure about how much money could be saved in membership fees. The fact the figure was grossly inflated did not at all detract form its effect in highlighting the debate. In fact, the more Remain people complained that the figure was totally wrong, the more publicity it gave to the general point being made. Just so with Trump. It doesnt matter he is over the top, the more his opponents point out he is over the top, the more they highlight there is a real issue behind it.
There is no solution to this for opponents to Trump, because there ARE real issues for which they themselves have no answers.
