Tom Brady is rich but the guy who signs his check is wealthy.

Bingo. Obviously someone has cash out the wazzo to sign a contract with Tom Brady for that amount. And the astonishing thing is that person expects to obviously make TONS off of Tom but Jjz could care less about the moneyed puppetmaster just the puppet.

But the system *has* changed in significant ways over time--not only toward something more benign through government regulation, but also toward something even more voracious through hyper-fast computer technology and sleight-of-hand financial maneuvers. This is not your father's capitalism. Change is already the reality; it's a question of whether we exert any control over it.

I hear you. What's that old saying "the more things change, the more they . . . ". You get it. The control piece is what many here would support, and many out there would equally fear and continue to fight. I've enjoyed this exchange.

Anyway, getting back to the OP, Ben Carson is now tied with Trump in a new survey of Iowa republican caucusgoers (is that a word?). There is a lot of time for change here too in this race, but this may just require a new thread.

Well trump just signed on the dotted line. Can you imagine what it'll be like having trump front running republicans? Having the full strength of a "win at any cost" republican base. Yup. Trump (Now with kung fu grip).

How is Trump ever going to beat Hillary? Sanders and Biden, maybe, but never Hillary. If I was a Republican I would be praying that Carly Fiorina wins (impossible, I know!). What the US needs is for Hillary to be taken on by another woman - a strong, independent, scandal-free, business-minded, successful, smart woman such as Fiorina. I'm willing to bet that the US would be electrified by a battle between those two. And I'm also willing to bet that Fiorina would take it. In fact, there is no choice to be made in a battle of Carly vs Hillary. The whole female issue would immediately be taken out of the contest - and considering that's Hillary's strongest card - she would be floundering. Then it would come down to the Stale, Establishment, Globalist, Scandal-Riven Washington Veteran versus the Fresh, Non-Establishment, Business-Savvy, Scandal-Free Candidate.

I know who I would choose.

I hope you'll start a Carly thread to explain what you find so compelling about her.

Here Donald....take this, go out into the world and fulfil your dreams. Let's all see how the rest of the world views your opinions. Stop using those that do not have what you have to keep you in your fantasy world.

Donald Trump is a person who always thinks he is right.

If you want someone like that to lead a nation. Best of luck to you. Tell him he is wrong when he fucks up....Ha Ha.

He'll be ok though. He is the sort that sends troops to do his dirty work, cause he can pay for it, or you.

Do not vote for Bush Jnr, Jnr. Either.

Ha! I don't feel strongly enough about it as I know she stands no chance. I just really like her. I'm very pro the U.S. having a female president (although obviously not at the cost of competence). I'm just not convinced Hillary is the best candidate. There's sonethihg very trustworthy about Fiorina.

Isn't that how this country votes? It's "time" for a woman president.

Umm yeah good luck with that. She's dead in the water. Considering that a good portion of republicans have a serious case of islamophobia. And that one third of trump supporters think obama is a muslim. The odds she'll get any real backing is so slim its laughable (backing as in republicans on the ground that is.). And thats before you even introduce women's rights.

Just gut feeling, which I know is completely irrelevant. Just personal intuition, and I know that means squat, but hey just giving my two cents worth. While so many Americans were dizzily infatuated with Obama, I just knew it was all soaring words, political crap and not much else. I think I was right on that one. But then, I always thought Bush would be better than Gore, and Christ how wrong did I turn out there!

I completely agree with you, re being dead in the water. Not arguing the case. Just saying she looked to me to be the best of a bad bunch. And certainly better, in my view, than Hillary or Trump.

This will be one of the few times i even hint at this cause it's so much fun letting people place stereotypes on me but it wasn't all crap. And i'll leave that at that.

As far as hillary goes, well democrats have been leading each other into the fire much like republicans. So i don't think you'll have to worry about hillary too much. Trump on the other hand...has ignited a base that would do anything to anyone to win. I don't know, i don't see him backing out of all that and becoming a "loser". Not unless he was paid handsomely. Which could happen but it would have to be a very sexy amount. Cause so far republicans and people in general have allowed him to say and do what no other politician could. Then going so far as to put him on the roster. If republicans don't find or make someone that can channel the hatred and out an out fuckery of the right into another person trump will light bernie sanders on fire then piss on the ashes. Meaning...trump would be the united states next president.

Theres some leeway here and there on certain things but if all this continues as it is now then (if i were a bettin man and had no morals and didn't care about dying.) i'd bet on trump for the win. And i think my inner dialog just threw up in it's mouth.

Ha! Trump as next US president? Well, people have odd views on this. My gf is very liberal & non-political but actually thinks Trump is great because, in her words, he says what others are thinking but are too scared to say. Of course, when you have that much money, you don't really give a fuck, I suppose. But the fact that she actually chooses Trump over Hillary & Fiorina boggles my mind, particularly as she's pro-women & he's said some astoundingly distasteful things about women. But that's the power a rich, confident, plain-talking, macho man can exercise over otherwise mild folk!

My point on Trump is: if he wins, one of two things will happen - (1) every problem in the US will be resolved & it will become a force to be reckoned with again; or (2) World War Three will be ignited.

Either way, it's been an entertaining ride.

Yeah well thats politics for you. I've seen many do that exact same thing and it literally made my brain hurt. Then again america has been doing that for years. It's one thing to vote for an unknown. Someone without lengthy history. And a whole different can o beans to vote for someone you should know without a shadow that they'll work against your best interest. Once again, thats the very definition of america. You know that.

And yeah i highly doubt (1) is an option. Cause trickle down economics suddenly got a new name and face. (and thats just one of many reasons why we're screwed) So i'm thinking that second one. :(
