Donald trump leads a new republican presidential nationwide poll

It is fascinating he expects to win by solely the white male vote. But I guess there's resentment all around.

Trump’s gender-based attack on Clinton, which he defended in subsequent days, was likely no accident. Research shows the attack is rational, and his repetition of it suggests it’s calculated.

Trump orchestrated his primary campaign success on the basis of economic and racial resentment. Now he’s building a general-election strategy — against the first woman to lead a major party’s presidential ticket — on gender resentment.

www.washingtonpost.com: Trump’s calculated misogyny

Just as Trump has exposed a surprising depth of racial animus in the United States, there is gender animus to be tapped as well. Cassino found that the “gender role threat” — a perceived threat to male identity and masculinity — leads to increased support for Trump among men, and lower support for Clinton.

I've posted several studies on the depths of gender bias in the U.S. (here they are again), although, like race, true bigots, when confronted with the facts, only become further ENTRENCHED in their way of thinking:

Study shows gender bias in student evaluations – Campus News – UW-La Crosse
Male biology students consistently underestimate female peers, study finds: Male students ranked their male classmates as more knowledgeable about course content, even over better-performing female students -- ScienceDaily
Study shows gender bias for women seeking employment
New research proves gender bias extraordinarily prevalent in science, technology, engineering and math fields -- ScienceDaily

What's even more infuriating is the smugness of ------------ like Trump who say the kind of s------- they say and EXPECT it to not matter to women.

No, only 25 percent of Californians have Mexican ancestry.
Hispanics (including but not limited to Mexicans) are now the largest group, having recently nudged out non-hispanic whites—but are still probably just under 40 percent, so not a majority either, though certainly significant political players.
Fuck off blimey, they are a majority! Stick to your stiff upper lip sniveling Brit-shit troll!

California's 'Fuck Trump' Protest Wasn't a Movement—It Was a Party

By Eric Cocoletzi

April 29, 2

  • On Thursday evening, thousands of Donald Trump supporters snaked around the fringes of the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, California, anxious to witness firsthand the spectacle of a Donald J. Trump production, live from the campaign trail. Dozens of young, brown protesters were there too, turning out to chant and scream "Fuck Donald Trump!" in the faces of people who bought tickets. It was the first Trump rally to hit Orange County this election cycle, and even before the doors opened, it seemed likely to make national headlines before the last bottle was hurled.

He's doing the calculation. As the study found... The priming of voters with the gender-role question caused women to support Clinton even more strongly, by an extra 12 percentage points. But this didn’t offset the losses the experiment caused Clinton among men. Overall, she lost 8 percentage points when voters were reminded about changing gender roles. Playing the man card — appealing to a male sense of feeling threatened by changing gender roles — can help Trump boost turnout among conservative and evangelical Christian men, while also peeling off some support from non-white men and older, anti-feminist women.

Meanwhile back at the ranch stauch "Reagan is God" George Will thinks The Donald can be ignored and all can return to "normal" again with the Party doing the usual bait-and-switch. Well he does mention "party's reconstruction" though I'm sure those are that is just lip service since they are incapable of addressing today's issues without falling back on voodoo economics and licking the boots of the rich and dog whistle politics. As a writer said today Donald Trump proved you can go a la carte now. And bash the minorities and bash free trade and outsourcing companies. You don't have to have voodoo economics and free trade on the plate anymore.

Donald Trump’s damage to the Republican Party, although already extensive, has barely begun. Republican quislings will multiply, slinking into support of the most anti-conservative presidential aspirant in their party’s history. These collaborationists will render themselves ineligible to participate in the party’s reconstruction.

www.washingtonpost.com: If Trump is nominated, the GOP must keep him out of the White House

Great comments too:

The GOP as a national party is circling the toilet bowl of history. And deservedly so. It survives at the state and local level through gerrymandering and voter suppression. I hope it is proud of that.

-----

Once again Will misses the point. The problem that Republicans face isn't just Trump -- it's Trump's popularity within the ranks of Republican voters. Trump isn't the disease that plagues the Republican Party, he's the symptom.

Who's likely to be a Republican these days? Almost certainly that person is white. The Republican Party has become so exclusive that it could change its name to the National White People's Party and not lose a single vote. The Republican voter is likely to be older or to be less well educated or to live in the South. All of these demographic groups are shrinking. Millennials are rejecting the Republican Party as are minorities, educated voters, and residents of more affluent and urban states. Republicans have painted themselves into a corner with their sectarianism.

So, no, a likely Republican debacle this November does not presage a Republican renaissance in four years. Not given the demographic anchor that the Republicans have tied themselves to. In order to be rid of the specter of Trump Republicans need to rid themselves of the ideology and values that gave rise to Trumpism. No easy task. Denying Trump the Presidency is not a cure, it's barely a beginning.
--
Poor George. Still in denial. Trump IS the GOP. He is the culmination of Goldwater's opposition to the Civil Rights Act, Nixon's Southern Strategy, Reagan's speech in Philadelphia, Mississippi, George H.W. Bush's Willie Horton ad, W's misbegotten wars, the rise of the Tea Party and the silence of GOP "leaders" as members of your party sought to delegitimize Obama as not born in the US, as a Kenyan, and as a Muslim. You now have a racist, misogynistic, xenophobic narcissist as the GOP leader. Enjoy, Georgie, enjoy!

Eh... no...
suburbanstats.org: California Population demographics 2016, 2015

Whites are still the majority of California. Depending on your social circle and places you personally frequent, it may seem that Hispanics make up the majority, but state-wide... No. Now the Hispanic population is growing and will one day surpass whites as the majority, but at the moment, Hispanics are the second largest demographic of California.

Trump is a pure unfiltered expression of what the GOP has become. It is not the party of Lincoln. It is not the party of Teddy Roosevelt. It is not the party of Dwight Eisenhower. These people would be more at home in what is not the Democratic party. Ted Cruz is worse than Trump, but he has a veneer or respectability because he is a Senator. Fundamentally they are almost the same, but Trump is more of an embarrassment because he is so ham handedly obvious.

The choices are clear. This party needs to be voted out at every level. It does no good to vote for Bernie or Hillary and not vote against every Republican on every ticket, no mater how low the office might be. One Republican clerk of the court is one too many. The choices are very clear - now more than ever.

I saw different figures in a couple different places. Here's one here, from January 2014:
According to California Governor Jerry Brown’s new state budget, Latinos are projected to become the largest single racial/ethnic group in the state by March of this year, making up 39% of the state’s population. That will make California only the second state, behind New Mexico, where whites are not the majority and Latinos are the plurality, meaning they are not more than half but they comprise the largest percentage of any group.
[ source ]

There were others as well. I just don't have time to go looking right now.
The Wikipedia article, iirc correctly, said that whites were still the largest minority but no longer a majority in California.
But on no construction were Hispanics, much less Mexicans (not, I realize, your point), already a majority.

The only real difference between Trump and Cruz as candidates is that Trump will spit out anything he thinks will get a rise out of his audience. Cruz sticks to the GOP approved dog whistles and tries to avoid direct racism/sexism/homophobia/etc.

I too think Cruz is actually worse. He reminds me of a used car salesman I met once in Texas trying to sell me a '85 El Dorado. I could see the painted ducktape holding the bumper on. Sleaze...

We can hope a total loss of everything would be could be the starting point to reconstructing the party but in previous defeats the answer was always to become more conservative not less more obstructionist more deranged. To go even further to the right. Think Tea Party in 2010 after the huge losses in 2008. You can't demonize "the left" AND move to the left. And the left is anything that has a hint a sniff of helping the people and not the 1% they are truly in office to serve.

And even as they face an implosion they remain hard at work to their puppet masters:

Donald Trump's candidacy isn't only inspiring protests on the street.

His comments against immigrants, particularly targeting Mexican nationals, has pushed many Latino residents to seek US citizenship - so that they can cast a vote in the pres

It is curious how instinctively one protects the image of oneself from idolatry or any other handling that could make it ridiculous, or too unlike the original to be believed in any longer.

True, in my city and county and the counties all around me,..Mexicans are the majority..From miles away looking at stats I'm wrong; However, waiting in line and/or sitting in a waiting room, watching a Mexican mom with four kids holding a baby, And right next to her, another mom with two kids, all I do is look around and count.., I do the math in my head..Its the same with Fat people, More Fat people shop at Costco and Walmart than anywhere. The stats are stats..numbers on paper..
If I drive 4 hrs. North or east, no, Of course I won't see the same scene..
A lil personal anecdote; 1912, Croatian Grandpa along with other Croatians who traveled with him on the boat, were "steered" towards Watsonville, CA. since it was similar in climate and geography to the village they came from..When I was a kid, most of the adults I saw were European , Croatian, Italian, etc..100 years later, Watsonville is once again full of Mexicans, what it was before the Europeans arrived.

Trump will win the Republican nomination.
Hillary will win the Democrat nomination.
Hillary will beat Trump in the general election.

The only question is whether or not the Democrats will reclaim the Senate.

If the GOP were smart, they'd confirm Obama's moderate SCOTUS judge now rather than Hillary's liberal judge in the future.

Interesting theory. Given his towering narcissism and vanity it wouldn't be a surprise.

www.washingtonpost.com: This 20-minute roasting may have turned Donald Trump into a presidential candidate

You can see in almost everything Trump now does -- from his stump speech sneering at the Washington establishment to his insistence that reporters are the "most corrupt" people -- the scars from that night in Washington. Trump has used that April night almost five years ago as fuel to stoke the outrage, anger and alienation that sit at the heart of his campaign.

Trump hasn't just crashed the Washington party. He's flipped over all of the tables and poured wine on everyone's tuxedos. And he's loving every minute of it.
