In related news, SCUM RISING TO THE TOP (although in Trump's case, it was almost ALL scum):

The Justice Department engaged in improper hiring during Trump's final days: whistleblowers - Alternet.org

Two whistleblowers are calling for an investigation into the U.S. Justice Department's alleged improper injection of politics into the government agency's hiring process during Donald Trump's final days in office.

On Wednesday, March 10, the whistleblowers penned a letter to House and Senate lawmakers, along with the Justice Department's inspector general. The whistleblowers are accusing Jeffrey Bossert Clark of implementing a botched hiring process to employ an individual who willingly supported [Trump's] policy on abortion. In the letter, they also noted that the person hired reportedly had "far less experience than other finalists for the job in the Civil Division," according to NPR.

Clark found himself at the center of controversy earlier this year when The New York Times released a report highlighting how he mulled over strategies to overthrow the acting attorney general to take the position himself to further Trump's agenda to invalidate election results in the state of Georgia.

In the letter, the whistleblowers said Clark "used a timer" in the meetings and was not "particularly engaged."

"What set the successful appointee apart from the other candidates was that the appointee — unlike the others — had volunteered and was part of the DOJ litigation team defending a controversial Trump administration policy," according to their letter.

David Seide, the Government Accountability Project's senior counsel who also represents the whistleblowers used Clark's incident as an example.

"Like other instances of misconduct by departing Trump administration officials, these abuses of authority are disturbing," Seide said.

"Mr. Clark's last-minute politicization of the DOJ hiring process and issuance of policy memoranda — capped by his willingness to participate in what was close to an attempted coup d'état — demands immediate, close and transparent oversight and investigations."

The damage done by Trump's SCOTUS to America's democracy and the right to vote (as well as possibly many OTHER rights we've come to take for granted), is only JUST BEGINNING to become apparent:

The Supreme Court's reign of destruction is only beginning - The Supreme Court’s Conservatives Have Laid the Groundwork for the Devastation to Come

In many ways the 2020 term at the Supreme Court followed the progression of the coronavirus. There were different phases and stages, distinct strains and variants; there was death and grief and new life and rebirth. And through it all there was gaslighting and denial.

Until about a week ago, we heard a lot of media stories of a confounding and unpredictable court, with improbable lineups and unlikely bedfellows. And sure, there has been a lot of that.

But Thursday saw a change in narrative with the thunking down of two cases that seemed to poke at the very fabric of democracy; a one-two punch that took aim at Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and the ability to challenge election laws that burden racial minorities, and seemingly opened the floodgate to unaccountable and untraceable dark money flooding into a system that is already drowning in it.

It almost defies comprehension that a Supreme Court that devoted so much energy, all year long, to appearing removed from partisan politics, chose the very last day of the term to let us know that when the rubber hits the road, partisan politics is what matters.

Analysis Reveals the Profound Damage Wrought by GOP-Packed Supreme Court | Common Dreams News

Confirming fears progressive critics shared ahead of the confirmations of all three U.S. Supreme Court Justices appointed by Donald Trump, an analysis published Friday details the devastating impact of having a GOP supermajority on the nation's highest court.

"This Supreme Court is dominated by Trump-appointed justices, with predictably disastrous results for voting rights as well as workers, consumers, and immigrants this term," said PFAW president Ben Jealous in a statement Friday.

"The harmful rulings coming out of this court make it critical that Congress pass legislation to protect voting rights and shore up our democracy," —Ben Jealous, PFAW

"The 2020-2021 term that just ended shows that our rights are not safe at the Supreme Court
, and that we must work to change the makeup of the court," warns the progressive advocacy group People For the American Way (PFAW) in its latest annual report.

AGAIN FOR THE RIGHT (TRUMP, THE GOP, CONSERVATIVE JUDGES, AND MOST OF THEIR CONSTITUENCY
THE CRUELTY'S THE POINT
Recently, in another thread (don't recall where) I made mention of the retrogressive, and sometimes down right mean actions by the U.S. Supreme Court via what is known as a shadow docket.

Among revelations about this behind the scenes court was the disclosure that they've been pretty much letting the Trump administration have it THEIR way for quite some time. Which is exactly WHY he expected they'd end up intervening in his phony a---- sore loser election fraud claim on HIS behalf.

And they CONTINUE to do so, rendering some rather deplorable, in our face-like verdicts on everything from Trump's "stay in Mexico" outrage to ending the eviction moratorium, thereby literally tossing MILLIONS of Americans in dire straits OUT ON THE CURB.

Supreme Court watch…

“…that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth” —Abraham Lincoln

Or will every effort be made to create a Republican autocracy?

DEFINITELY the latter. Anytime a poll finds that 70 percent of Republicans say they believe a state should have the right to overturn an election result THEY don't like, that SHOWS you, they don't give TWO FKS about a Democracy.

(I think there's a WORD for that... something starting with an F?)

“…they know not what they do.” They seem to forget their choices will affect them also.
