As I understand it, this vote was not the last. It was a Cloture vote which was a vote to "close the debate" about bringing it up
for a vote...THAT ONE PASSED.

There still has to be a final vote to REPEAL DADT...which will
probably come in the next few days. If that does not pass, then
it will have to go to the Supreme Court.....

So..keep you fingers and other parts crossed until it FINALLY HAPPENS!

While I am passed the age where this directly affects me I am happy it will soon be coming up for a vote. The only thing I wish I could have been a fly on the wall at Tony Perkins house. Roflao

wow.

notable thanks to the folks at SLDN, who have been fighting DADT for many years, and GetEqual. some of the folks from GetEqual (military service members included) were arrested in mid-november for chaining themselves to the white house fence over this issue.

for the record, most members of the military were NOT OPPOSED to the REPEAL of DADT.

happy holidays everybody!

Wow, that page is pretty rich. Here's a sample:

If you wanna have the benefit of being one of those "Protected Class" members (you get benfits and have the Right to claim discrimination), I suggest we all specify that we are "gay", and get it on the record.Heterosexual White Christians have no protections whatsoever that SPECIFIES they are to be afforded ANYTHING, so maybe it's time we all became "gay" (on paper)?

It's Richard Burr, and color me deeply impressed. He's hardly a social moderate.

I'm pleasantly surprised that the democratic senator from my state (North Carolina) voted in favor, but I'm shocked that the republican senator (who just ran for election) also voted in favor. He was the only southern republican senator to vote for it.

Edit...ooops Bb beat me to the punch re: Richard Burr.

A "twitter exchange" between Lt Dan Choi and Harry Reid:
Reid: @ltdanchoi One hour away from fulfilling my promise to you to kill DADT;

Lt Choi: I love you, @SenatorReid. Now gimme back my ring!

for those not familiar with this,
sen. reid has been holding lt. choi's west point ring as a promise to choi to get DADT repealed.

lt. choi was a part of the GetEqual action at the white house fence on 11/15/10, no ONE person has probably contributed as much to the repeal of DADT as lt. choi.

First...Lt. Dan Choi......
THANK YOU for hanging in there and making all those appearances and standing up for what is right. I had read about your ring, but didn't kow if the story was true or not.

Now. Lt. Choi, you can really.....Wear it with Pride. Wearing it proudly as a West Point graduate, and as a Proud Gay soldier!

For myself and for all Gay and Bi vets, and for all still in the military who have served, and who are presently serving their country honorably...it is a GREAT DAY!

Went and read few posts there, and it amazes me how many people think that this is literally going to destroy the United States. One person made what I thought of as an intelligent, but purely conservative post. He stated that DADT had always been a shoddy system to begin with, just put in place because Clinton didn't have the balls to legitimize open service for gays. Then he said that 35 other countries in the world, many of them our allies, have openly gay people serving, so "don't worry, our servicemen and women can handle this." Then I read the replies to his post...

They set upon him like a fucking pack of rabid dogs. How dare he say they can handle it!?! How dare he try to compare the US to any other country!?! If you support the gay agenda than get the fuck off this forum!! Zot this motherfucker!

...I swear to God, I will never complain about people being bitchy to me on these forums ever again.

Congratulations to American queers who want to serve their country openly ! This is incredible news that should have happened earlier but I'm happy to smile up here in Canada knowing that the US Senate has taken at least one more step toward providing more equality to their queer constituents.
