Oh, when just going back, FF usually works. It thought there might be something more useful involved.

Late versions of Opera remember which tabs I have open when it (or Win98) crashes. Then when I restart everything I don't have to remember where I was. The FF I'm using (1.5) doesn't do that. I've heard that later versions of FF do. The last late version I installed didn't work too well in general, so I deleted it and reinstalled FF 1.5.

But none of them remember partial messages, or any messages at all after a freeze & crash.

Since I started using Windows Vista (I may also be using a more recent version of Firefox, I'm not sure), I've noticed that even when my computer crashes completely and I leave it turned off for several hours or days, when I restart the computer and Firefox it is able to restore my session almost exactly as it was, all windows open and on the right page, and sometimes it is also able to restore things I had typed into certain fields.

[edit] just for the record, I am using Firefox version 2.0.0.4 now.
