OK so i've had the misfortune to read some pretty disgusting and frankly disturbing posts on here today and here's my question. When men talk about women being "sluts" how can they feel superior about their own behaviour in "doing her"? I'm hoping some of the aforementioned disgusting posters will come and explain themselves. But i doubt it.

There's definitely a double standard there but everyone will have a different opinion on it. Some men will look down on you for being with a "slut" while many others will just look at the female as being wrong.

Yeah i pretty much figured that the kind of guy who posts about "sluts" wasn't going to have the balls to reply to my questioning here, so i would be getting the reasonable (read respectful, literate and intelligent) male response. Shame i can't start a thread called ASSHOLES WHY ARE YOU SO DUMB? on here.

Eh. There are male sluts and guy sluts. But for me, a slut is more so someone who cheats behind their partner's back. But if they're single and just enjoy sex, I don't see anything wrong with that.

Well I hate to inject culture here at this juncture but its a lot like the word "cunt". My Anglo cousins (on the other side of the Atlantic mostly) seem to be OK with tossing it about rather freely, but the word has some negative spin to it with most people in the US and probably Canada as well.

I generally try to be careful with both words (Slut and cunt). Unfortunately there is a double standard with many words where the users can utilize them on their own demographic but they become fighting words with other people (such as the N word or the F/Q words) when it suits their own agendas or arguments.

If people don't like particular words they should not use them, nor condone their particular peer group to as well.

in my experience they feel superior because it's another 'notch' under their belt. but they usually acknowledge that she was an easy lay so it isn't much of an accomplishment. but it's still another notch

That's pretty much what i thought goes through their head at the time. But they are happy to go arouns telling everyone that the woman is the "slut" without taking any responsibility for having sex with one. Oh well, i'm sure these guys are no stranger to an STD themselves.

I've never heard a guy bragging about doing a slut; to do so would be sort of contradictory.

There are certainly male sluts (man-whores) that I've met, who sleep around and blatantly lie to whoever they're dating at that time without any sense of shame. They definitely exist on the other side.

I think the double-standard of being a slut is somewhat justified though, since according to the laws of nature, a woman (assuming she is attractive) can have any guy she wants, and according to societal norms does not have to make the first move or "win over" the guy. For a guy it may be considered an achievement to put his moves down and get a girl, whereas women are simply expected to remain passive and respond to male advances. Add to this the fact that the majority of men have sex on their mind all the time, whereas the majority of women can control their urges to a greater extent, and the stigma of being a slut becomes understandable.

I'm not suggesting that there aren't women out there of whom i disapprove of. I'm not in any way saying that i don't believe "sluts" exist, but for the men (and if you type slut into the search engine here, you will find ALOT of examples of these men) to point fingers and name call when they themselves indulge with these women is just wrong. You may call a slut a slut if you wish to, just don't expect me to have any more respect for you than i do them.

Often a slut is a women who has sex with other men but not the accuser. Slut isn't a fact, it is a judgement. I don't like judgmental people. They usually apply standards to others that they don't apply to themselves.

A Slut is a woman with the morals of a man. LOL

you pretty much hit the nail with this one. its completely true.

why is it slutty for women to sleep around and its cool for guys? i have no clue... there are somethings in life that will never change. i think this is one of them.

my best answer for the double standard is, its how the world turns. people should deal with it
