Well, nice to be back, lets just get this out of the way. How much longer is this going to go on? There is no way America can stay shut down through the end of May, looks like the quarantines are finally starting to take affect and we can get back to life.

How long do you think media will try to doom and gloom people into staying home after this all ends? We are going to have to get out of the house for the election in November

It's interesting that a specific group of people are absolutely against hydroxychloroquine when its been proven to work on patients. Is it only because Donald Trump was in support of it? Sounds like they want things to go bad if it means Donald Trump isn't in office anymore. He's handled the media masterfully, regardless of how people feel about his response. He continues to gain followers through this.

Has anyone noticed how people were trashing our healthcare system for not being good enough, yet our death rate is less than 3% and other countries with 'better healthcare' are having much higher death rates. Guess ours isn't so bad.

Here's the Johns Hopkins study President Trump referenced in his coronavirus news conference

coronavirus-death-rates-worldwide

Joe Biden...needs to stop talking lol.

It will be going until infection is under control or a vaccine is ready for public use. So, if you can convince all the idiots to do the right thing, then it will be sooner rather than later.

In wartime you had to turn your lights off before an air raid so bombers could not zero in on a target. But if an idiot or two left their lights on...................it wasn't good for the majority.

This would have to be the best description by a person on the front line I've seen of how the virus progresses. ABC 7:30 report last night... Intensive care specialist Hugh Montgomery on when a coronavirus patient would need to go to ICU

The reason why we have to get it under control...is it is a virus. It can mutate at any point. If it is vascular, causes blood clotting..deprives the lungs of oxygen...then it needs to be nipped in the bud. The more people it passes through the more likelihood it can change.

Just because it is claimed that hydroxychloroquine has "worked" on some people does not mean that it is safe for use on the general public. There has not been enough research conducted nor enough conclusive data collected to determine its safety and efficacy against COVID-19.

As damaging to the economy as social distancing is, people tend to care more about their lives than money. Without finding a vaccine or "cure" against the virus and simply obtaining more information about how the virus operates, ending social distancing will put those of older age and those with compromised immune systems at risk - it's one thing to not care about yourself, but you should care about the general safety and well-being of others.

Wow disgusting, you don't even want to try a drug because Trump supports it. There are multiple doctors who have prescribed it and commented on the remarkable improvement of their patients. It doesn't hurt to try and you know it.

United States
Coronavirus Cases:

400,540
Deaths:
12,857
Recovered:
21,711

The 12,857 deaths came from the first 100,000 or so infected. If you are unlucky it takes on average 2 to 3 weeks to die. The first reported US case was 19th January. First death 1st March with 25,000 reported cases, some of these no doubt are still in hospital.

Just over a month later over 400,000 reported cases. The 12,857 who have so far died died would have come from the first maybe 100,000 or so reported cases.

So what do you reckon 250,000 deaths...500,000..... when do you think it will stop? It's stopped for 12,857 already over your way. The more hospitals are clogged the more will die.

You're putting words into my mouth? I never said I was not in favor of testing the efficacy of the drug against COVID-19 nor is my opinion on the drug in any way partisan-based? There needs to be more research conducted and human test trials before one can simply say "this drug will do the trick."

This is only temporary... Also, life doesn't lose meaning as a result of social distancing...

Life loses meaning without purpose. Sitting inside for 6 months, isn't a purpose. I give it until the end of May.

We have to go out and vote come election time.

I'm sorry that you think that way, but not everyone is nihilistic. There's a lot you can do during this down-time- perhaps learn a new skill or language.

my job is fine and I've used this time nicely. It's not nihilistic to believe life needs purpose lol

I'm not going to delve into the tenets of existential nihilism with you as that's becoming tangential to the focus of this thread; but, surely, we can agree to disagree. Social distancing will remain in effect until officials deem that it's safe to venture out again.

The at-risk population in the US are ALL COVERED BY SOCIALIZED HEALTHCARE.

If in fact, the quality or access to healthcare is indeed the overwhelming mitigating factor in the lower death rate in the US as compared to other countries like Italy, Algeria or even the UK... then that is attributed to TOTAL coverage of the at-risk population through socialized medicine aka Medicare.

You are praising the effects of socialism... congratulations, you are a Marxist.

lol uh yeah, our current system works, which makes it funny that so many people complain about the quality of it.

I understand your point. I think the major quips with the US Healthcare system amount to: a lack of access for certain segments of the population, it's high cost to benefit ratio, the over reliance on expensive, dangerous, poorly tested and ultimately ineffective drugs instead of sound and proven methods... and a focus on treatment over prevention.

The elephant in the room when it comes to cost and access is the fact that our healthcare efforts have to generate a profit for a small group of wealthy and elite shareholders.

The costs of healthcare keep rising because of the "for-profit" nature of our system.

Trying to get rich off of the illness and health of others is amoral and a system designed to be unequal and ineffective.

By shifting our for-profit system to a not-for-profit system, we would be able to focus on treatment and benefit vs keeping the costs as high as possible to generate ever increasing profits for the corporate shareholders.

We will try the drug when appropriate studies have been performed. If it were considered an appropriate treatment for COVID-19, more doctors would be prescribing it. The reason it’s not being rolled out widely is because clearly a majority of the medical community does not feel the research is there yet.

Do you really think the nation’s physicians and pharmacists are united in a conspiracy to make Trump look bad? Really?

So what are *you* going to do to help the healthcare workers who will be crushed by the spike in patients resulting from ending the lockdown before it’s medically indicated to do so? I bet you won’t do jack shit.

I doubt very much that you will be volunteering to help the nurses and doctors care for the people dying horrible, painful deaths laying in the hallways of hospitals. Or volunteering to help dig the mass graves.

And if you happen to be one of the ones who suffers complications, I bet you’ll be at the ER with bells on hoping there’s a nurse to take care of you and that you’ll get a ventilator if needed.

Nobody is saying the drug will 'do the trick' It doesn't hurt to try and there is a correlation between people taking it and improving.
You don’t even know what “correlation” means. The correlation could be sheer coincidence. Correlation does not imply causation.
