With the invention of air con, it seems no-one enjoys driving these days with the window wound down...Wound WTF...? Yes, back in the old days, winding was mandatory to get cooling breezes into the interior of your vehicle :) Everyone now, well nearly, is sealed in, in a climate controlled environment, which was once one of the joys of driving. Sealed from natural wind bluster, the odd rain shower, or storm or winter shiver.

I still get a kick of feeling the rain pelting on my arm, feel it sting on the palm of my hand, wind blowing through an open window.

Is it a sign of how soft we have become, another sign of how we detached we have become? Controlled environments everywhere we live, visit or drive to in?

There are times at the end of a day in tropical heat, or cold of winter I'll use the climate controls in my travel............But, I do think it goes in part in insulating us not only from our surroundings and natural elements, from eachother also.

So many now drive and live, sealed in to their personal comforts, we lose our attachment to the natural environment in which we live.

My AC doesn't work so my windows stay down. Hair up, windows down.
I've looked often at passing vehicles, fellow Building industry and Truckies................just about every window is wound up tight, even on the most pleasant of days.

It is truly disheartening to me, either they forget, or it's shear ignorance of the place in which they live. Yet windows come down to throw out litter. Have noticed an increase of litter through the last few years.....anyone else?

I live it with windows down. I wonder how long it will be before Mercedes come up with something you can hook up to areas where you don't even have to exit the vehicle in the hot, noon sun to take a leak (piss) or other.

Or an auto alarm go off that your bladder or bowel need to be relieved. :)

Imagining Juicy...Windows down, hair up..............goosebumps with cool breezes flowing over warm perspiring skin............:) Thanks for replying Juixie :)

Windows up on the freeway, but always down around town. The only exception is on very hot days (over 95 F). I sleep with my windows always open too - no matter how cold it gets. I’d rather snuggle deeper into bed with cold air around my face than breathe stale air.

I love when a storm rolls in, the wind, the lightning and pelting rain. Yet, people tune out when they climb into there little cocoon to traverse the highways.

Sometimes up, sometimes down. Depends on the weather and how much I care about what my hair looks when I get to my destination.

hmmm sounds like a trick question.

Depends on where I am at:
In the city - windows up and doors locked. Air on.
At the ocean - definitely windows down
In the mountains - windows up Heat on. It’s usually cold in mountains.
Near my house going shopping - windows down Air off
In the car wash - windows up. I’m not stupid, if I left the windows open I could get wet.

Seriously, I am not a fan of air conditioning, it makes my eyes water & itch. I Never sleep with it on just use a ceiling fan.

Living in the sun drenched hellscape that is Florida, 99% of drivers only roll down their window if they are going through the drive-thru. However like many things, I prove to be the anomaly and spend maybe at least half my time with them down.

Mostly this is because: A) Driving a four-banging econobox, I already have enough of a time with assholes in their V-6's and oversized trucks climbing up my ass when the light changes; using the A/C only adds to the pitiful acceleration factor and B) because I'm a cheap bastard who does everything I can to save gas (which is why I seem to have an affinity for standard transmission sub-compacts).

If the car was parked all day with them up, I will always drive with them open for at least the first ten minutes to let the greenhouse temperatures blow on out and depending on how I feel will either keep them down or roll them up and kick on the air. There is more of a chance leaving them down if I am on the streets versus a highway when they will almost always be up with the A/C on. Nothing worse then doing 10 to 15 miles over the speed limit (don't judge...I'd go faster if the car was capable) and having the side of one's face be pelted by a lit cigarette or Burger King bag tossed by the dickwad litterbug in front of you. It's also damn near impossible to hear the radio or my wife telling me the same story over again when it sounds like you're in the middle of a hurricane.

Of course I didn't always have a choice as one of the worst beaters I ever owned many years ago during some lean times didn't even have A/C. It wasn't that the previous owner who suckered me into buying it off him removed it; it was never factory installed to begin with. I went through two broiling summers with that rusting turd on wheels where I had no choice but to drive all the time with the windows down. Except when it rained and then I had to use my manual defroster, which was basically a rag I kept within reach to constantly wipe down the windshield while driving. Fun times.

Mrs. Squirrel prefers windows up and a/c blasting. She thinks I’m nuts for seldom turning it on and having them open. Years ago, cars had little no-draft windows on the driver and passenger doors. Less noise and fresh air.

Down as often as possible.
It helps to “get used to the heat” if I’m going to be in and out of the car a lot, like running errands.

It's great once August heat blends into September mellowness (at least in my area). There will be more overall dust going on if you are a clean car freak. I debated past two days because it was a bit warm and humid, Thurs/Fri look better for windows down in mid atlantic,

Late March I take the top off of my Jeep and don't put it back on until late October. Sometimes I take the doors off, too, but they're half doors, so windows are gone. I've driven in the rain a lot. I've since put on a bikini top, on my Jeep duh. Doesn't really stop the rain, but it doesn't sting as much.

Some living in Florida may never put top on (especially So FL). I think I wouldn't if I had a Jeep and safe nighttime parking (garage)

Yeah, I live in North Central Florida, so it gets chilly some parts of the year.

Temperatures around Tampa Bay can occasionally get down to freezing level during the winter. And every single time it does, Fox 13 and WFLA Channel 8 interview the same strawberry farmer out by Plant City. He wails, bellyaches and vows to move elsewhere....until he's interviewed the following season in his identical strawberry field.

I enjoy driving my Camaro ZL1 with the window down, so I can hear the roar of 650 fuel-guzzling horses all the way to PUBLIX supermarket.
