From time to time, I get really dry skin at my taint (the area between your balls and asshole for those not familiar with the term). It gets itchy and sometimes hurts...like one of those scratches that lasts longer than it should.

Aside from your typical moisturizing lotions or baby powder...anyone ever experience this and might have their own cure to alleviate the problem? I typically will put an over-the-counter cortizone cream on the area...and that helps after a couple of days...but what's the best way to prevent it?

Should it be something I should consult my doctor about...or is it more common than I think?

Depending on the type of underwear I am wearing, the weather, how long I have been sitting, etc, etc, I can actually develop a bit of dryness... It is not fun.

I just put a bit of lotion on it. I would say you need not consult a doctor. But, I am not an MD. I would suggest not itching excessively though. Lotion should help relieve the itchiness. Try Aveeno.

ahh...and to add...I wear only boxers (prefer the room and air flow) and also have varied the laundry detergents I've used.

I've tried a couple of aveeno products...but no real success. The main thing that does any form of helping is the cortizone cream. I'll probably have to hit the doctor's office and see if it's a fungal thing or what. I kinda have dry skin in general...so hopefully their might be some precription that might help.

Hmm... Yeah, you could go to the doctor and see if they could give you a specialised cream for down there. Or, try a dermatologist. They perhaps may be more knowledgeable in that department. I don't know. Good luck bro. Maybe somebody around here knows some other tips or tricks.

If I were you, I would treat myself for jock itch and yeast infection.
It sounds a lot like what that can be.
Also, especially if you are overweight, the area may not be drying well.
This causes very similar problems. Be certain to dry thourougly with a fresh. towel after every shower. Hang around for a while with out pants or underwear on, and perhaps sleep with out any, and where your pants without underwear during the day.
I say all this, because it is not an exposed area, and not as commonly prone to
dryness, as to this kind of problem.

If you do suspect though that is actually skin dryness. I have a few tips for diet that help many people - especially if you notice the same condition on your elbows, wich may indicate an essential fatty acid defficiency, common in people who eat a modern diet rich in animal fats. I can also share with you what has proven helpful for me topically, that is first and foremost, extra virgin olive oil and other simple treatments.
Let me know.
