I respect anybody's right to cover up, but in my personal view a man in a locker room who cannot drop his underwear has not identified himself as a man. It has nothing to do with his sexual identity -- the towel dancer can be straight or gay and may be a Titan in bed. But look -- if you cannot stand opposite another man and be naked to change clothes you lack the common-trust and mutuality element of gender identity. Men with fear of being naked often write how they want to get over it. They make excuses about erection concerns or how they may look. These guys appreciate they are missing something in their male identity, and I think they are right.

Ah, the Masculinist religion rears its ugly head again.

But suppose a man is subject to unwanted erections? How would you suggest dealing with it? It certainly can happen.

It can unintentionally be blatant and impossible to get rid of. Then what does one do?

I will channel my 15 year old self and see if I can remeber lol..... But if it's that exciting for you perhaps you should shower at home or at least beat out some excitement befor you go... Not being a dick(pardon the punn) but I'm guessing just do it....after a few times a gym shower will be no different than one at home.

I would advise some combination of: (1) talk to other guys while naked because pedantic conversation is counter intuitively suppressive; (2) masturbate before going to gym; (3) work out hard to avoid getting that way -- that means you are sweat soaked and weary (4) go to gym frequently enough you get used to showers--like every day for two weeks; (5) think of random numbers -- don't count as that can be done without engaging the right parts of your brain; (6) resolve you will shower stiff if need be so you are decisively committed and anxiety is not allowed to create an opt out.

Inevitably the anxious/naked erectile response will stop, and in many cases it will not even happen or produce only a semi. The locker room erection is typically not a creature of attraction --- lots of gay men manage totally floppy in the gym showers for example. Rather men who rise to attention by reason of simply being naked are hyper responding to the awareness of their own nakedness. Getting over that hyper response requires just doing it enough.

I remember in High School, I took P.E. with the local Community College instead of at high school to avoid awkwardness. I still totally understand nervousness about it - same reason so many people wear shirts to go swimming: We're not comfortable with our bodies, especially not the parts which represent raw sexual exchanges thanks to the type of media that we are frequently exposed to.

If someone told me I should wear a towel in the lockerroom I'd say "But...we're in the lockerroom..."

If you don't want to see a cock, don't go in a men's lockerroom.
Great response. I've never been told to wear a towel, but now I know how I'll respond. If you're watching me change in a locker room, you'll probably see my dick. If that somehow offends you, look away or don't use the locker room.

At my present advanced age, it is no longer a problem but when I was young it was a problem. Therefore, I understand that it would be a problem for many younger men. As one ages, one can still get erections but they are much less likely to be uncontrollable.

That's a good post, but it is likely to be removed by a monitor since it mentions high school. It is possible that you will even be reprimanded. The monitors are, in my opinion, somewhat too sensitive.
