thingsteal: I've never had problems getting it up and don't need Viagra, but I was curious to read about people who pop Viagra before they do a plaster cast of their cock in order to stay fully hard during the process.

Are there people who don't need Viagra but take it recreationally in order to achieve a hard-on for a long period of time?

If you do take it in a recreational manner then how long does your erection usually last? I'm just talking the erection, not necessarily if it withers after orgasm(s).

mekkler: This describes an experiment that my gf tactfully suggested. While satisfied with our sex life (she maintains) what would happen with a little chemical enhancement. So I tried it and the only noticeable affect was a mild headache and some nasal congestion. The doctor said this is basically the effect it has on someone who doesn't need it.

leoboy63: Viagra has become the durg of choice in the gay community. Along with other "party" drugs, it is supposed to enhance the sexual experience, whether needed or not.

It is also used by "larger" guys (as referenced on this site) to produce a harder, longer lasting erection. It's not just for Bob Dole anymore! :D

    Some use it recreationally, yes.

Viagra is basically nitroglycerin, so it really doesn't enhance your sex drive any more than other heart medications do. What it does do, though, is increase blood flow to the penis (and everywhere else) thus making erections easier, more firm, and more permanent. It won't, however, deal with psychological problems with erection; nor will it make orgasms stronger.

    Viagra is basically nitroglycerin, [/quote]

    CAUTION:

Viagra is different from, and not compatible with, nitroglycerin!.

Acording to the instructions in the Viagra package, mixing Viagra and nitroglycerin can be fatal. The same goes for large doses of other nitrates.

spd: I've taken viagra recreationaly, it allows me to have a few too many drinks and still have a rock hard erection. It doesn't do anything for me otherwise.

Yes, ericbear, it is especially dangerous to heart patients who must depend upon nitroglicerin for angina or heart attack.

The simple explanation that my cardiologist gave me is that both Viagra and nitroglicerin relax (and expand) the blood vessels. Therefore, if you've taken Viagra recently and suddenly find yourself with chest pain, then taking nitroglycerin will do you no good due to the fact that your blood vessels are already as large as they're going to get. So your heart muscle will get no relief from its efforts to pump blood through what it feels are constricted blood vessels, and you could have a resultant heart attack.

It's a shame, too. So many more men could enjoy the fruits of what Viagra offers if not for this side effect.

A few years ago when I was a full-time hooker (a.k.a. "escort" ;) ), I had a client who was diabetic, and had lots of problems with erections. He was really excited about trying Viagra. He got a prescription from his doctor, and took his first dose just before visiting with me one afternoon. We had a great time (as usual), and he was thrilled that he was able to maintain a full erection the entire time. Just before he left, he told me that it was the best sex he'd had in 20 years.

He went home, and a couple hours later, he had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital.

Luckily, he didn't die, but he was never able to take Viagra again - it would simply be too risky.

In the very near future, we in the U.S. should have a couple of new options to enhance erections. The medications, Cialis and Uprima, have already been on the market in Europe, and I've only heard good things about them.

I've never had any problems with Viagra, but it'll be fun to try something new. :)
