Well in Atlanta 2 weeks ago 2night they opened with the first three trax off the new cd
Red Carpet Massacre. No one seemed to mind really as everyone was so jacked to be there and these tunes have that classic Duran sound with the funk of say Notorious. It never fails to amaze me that people are shocked to hear how good they are live. Then again they came along at a time when you HAD to play live.
Their fourth tune?
Hungry Like the Wolf followed by the hits:
Planet Earth, an extended crowd sing along
Reflex, Ordinary World, Come Undone, Save a Prayer (everyone held up their lit cell phones to this tune -looked awesome)
A View to a Kill, and the best song on the new cd,
Skin Divers.
They then did a wicked "electro-set," paying homage to a band, Kraftwerk, that had a huge influence on early Duran. All four came to the very front of the stage and played 'synth style" instruments. Yes even Roger. Very Depeche Mode like with electro-reworked versions of
Skin Trade, All She Wants Is, classic
Last Chance on the Stairway, new tune
Tempted and a clever cover of
Warm Leatherette.
Then they returned to the respective instruments and played an extended
Notorious, a longg version of
Girls on Film that everyone thought was the finale as Simon introduced the band during this tune. Next was the hit from their last cd,
Reach up for the Sunrise and a kickin
Wild Boys. The finale/ encore was a crowd pleasing
Rio.
Not sure if these links will work but these are pics from their "electro set" :

Just enter the site by clicking on the top left of the page to which the link will take you and then click on "Gallery" on the scrolling bar and click on "Duran Duran Blog" on the far right just under the scrolling bar. Some really cool photos of the now infamous electro-set. They have pretty much stuck to this set for the whole tour. The crowd was awesome as everyone seemed to be grateful to be sent back to the less carefree days of their youth. It was like it was 1982-1985 all over again.
