1) it’s all about talent and bankability. He’s a little all too American boy next door at the ANTM days to go mainstream, he wasn’t unique enough to be runway/editorial, but hot enough the gays and girls liked him that he got work.
2) body. His prospects dwindled cuz he kept bulking and the fashion world isn’t about big body building bodies or super intense muscles. Not for the big bucks models anyway. Tyra even said that to another model who had a huge frame at the time on the show he was one.

I think there's a grain of truth to your thesis, but it's also broadly generalized.
