I just switched to a Dvorak keyboard layout and I was curious as to the number of people that also use it...

    Anyone?

I've tried it a couple of times, but since I was trained (in class) on a QWERTY, the DVORAK keyboard had too much learning curve and slowed me down too much. Good luck with it, though.

The only Dvorak I know is the technique of classifying hurricane stregnth based on cloud top appearance, center of circulation, and how cold the cloud tops are.

Dvorak scale goes in inciments of .5 from 1-9.

There I just taught you Meteo 201. You all can thank me with a blowjob.

I prefer the Slavonic Dances or Cello Concerto in B minor.

I like his new world symphoney.

Dvorak keyboards I've never tried - I'm used to QWERTY.

For me, it's the Piano Quintet all the way.

BTW, for anyone who knows, what kind of speed advantage is Dvorak supposed to deliver?

I've never considered switching away from QWERTY, since that's the only layout I can depend upon to be available elsewhere -- when I'm giving a presentation somewhere on campus, or tutoring in one of the computer labs, I may not have "my" keyboard with me. And the trouble of having to switch back and forth seems like it'd negate any alleged gains.

I say 'alleged', because the body of evidence in favor of Dvorak's faster speeds is quite small, and there's even less evidence that Dvorak provides any advantage in preventing repetitive stress injuries.

That said, if I were ever to lose the use of one hand, I would definitely change layouts then -- the advantages of the one-handed Dvorak layouts for the disabled are fairly well established.

By the way, Aloha! Are you a Mac man or a PC man? Just curious, every DVORAK fan I've ever met used a Mac....

Very beautiful -- and nothing in history more cliched.
And you know that! *slap, slap, slap*
BTW, DC_DEEP, is that pic in your profile you?

Well, yes, on CD "collections" it is... but if you tell someone "Name a piece by Dvorak..." how many say "new world symphony" or "slavonic dances" or "piano quintet", compared with how many will say "humoresque"???

And yes, the pic in my gallery is indeed me, in my USMC dress blues.

My opinion, DC? I think more would say "humoresque" than the "piano quintet." But I don't know.

Very good pic. Ooh. I say again, ooh.

Gotta tell you, I think the most common answer would be "Who?"

    Ah, cookies I've heard of. . .

Actually, my area of research for my music degree was Eastern European music of the turn of the century -- Dvorak, Scriabin, Bartok, Kodaly, etc. (My thesis, however, was on Shostakovich's Fifth.) I got a lot of "who?" responses from people back then.

Shostakovich is great! I love Kalinikov, too (even though I've seen about 12 different variant spellings of his name.) Armenian Dances (parts I and II, but especially part I) is one of the most moving and exciting pieces I've ever played... I just never did get a lot of Bartok's stuff, though. I know it was folk-based, and a lot of it was pedagogical, but I just never really did get it.
