The news we liberals have been hoping for has happened. Elizabeth Warren will be the special advisor to design and implement the new consumer protection agency as a result of financial reform. All you wall street skanks and Obama haters who hate her are SOL, and there is little you can do now to stop her. Obama can then nominate her and appoint her as the director during a congressional recess. Once again , the president has shown HE IS NOT A CORPORTIST OR A SOCIALIST. Rather, he is a populist. God bless Warren and Obama, and vote for Democrats Nov. 2.

The "buzz" in Massachusetts(her home State) is that she will remain a special adviser for 2 years and set up and implement the consumer protection agency, which was her idea in the first place. And then in 2012, she will run for Senate against Scott Brown. Sounds like a good plan to me.

If the President does the appointing during a recess, then he is an opportunist, and little better than his predecessor. This may delight certain liberals, it will infuriate many voters and the Dems will lose a few more supporters, the Republicans will gain if that is the way the President decides to go.

The idea of the agency is nice, she may well be qualifiied (I have no bio) it should follow standard procedure, instead of adding to the unrest.

'Standard procedure' with an obstructionist Republican Party?? Dream on. If Obama said tomorrow he was for tax cuts for the rich as the Republican Party is today, tomorrow the same Republican Party would be against it. I say FUCK them! The Republican Party wants a regulator that is in bed with the very entity they are charged with regulating.

This is the best news to come out of this administration in a long time, maybe the best ever. If only the Democrats hadn't caved to the Republicans and had set it up as a stand alone agency instead of housing the thing inside the damn Federal Reserve. To wit:

I have the utmost confidence in Ms. Warren, but her job's not going to be easy. I only hope she will have the power and get the administrative support she needs.

I expect her to fight like hell for financial consumers. That would be nice for a change.

The sole reason Wall Street and the Republican Party hate her is because she might actually do the job she is tasked with doing and not working hard to turn government oversight into a sham operation and then when it inevitably blows up in our faces claim 'see government can't do anything right'. Can anyone say Lehman Brothers, Enron or BP?

Hoss, you are as dumb as the character in Bonanza. The GOP has done recess appointments for years. I applaud our president for having the GUTS to appoint her in the face of Wall street opposition. The big boys on wall street made millions of dollars they did not earn thanks to the Bush bailout. Screw them !!!

The Republicans would have filibustered her appointment; I'm sure that the usual suspects are crowing loudly about yet another "czar"

Anyone who doesn't understand that the Republicans have obstructed everything they can up until now has evidently never opened a paper, watched the news or read anything on the internet in the last two years. Bi-partisanship only works when one of the partisan interests actually assents to an occasional compromise, and with precious few Republicans (the senators from Maine, Collins and Snowe, stand out as exceptions) seem willing to put the country before their petty partisan gamesmanship.

Our democracy only works when we have both parties offering creativity and cooperation in order to accomplish the nation's (urgent) business: "no" is not a workable place to start a compromise.

To the OP: Obama's not a populist, not by a stretch. The Warren appointment took months of dithering and coy teasing. Instead of red meat for the base, the process descended into the eventual offering of a Nylabone, which is very much Obama's MO. I support him precisely because he's not a populist. He's a thoughtful and reasonable pragmatist in our over-heated times.

The way I understand it, Ms. Warren has only been tapped to design and set up the agency at this point.
She has not been named its director, so this business of circumventing congress and naming a "czar" is a red herring. Presumably if Obama decides to appoint her director and if she wants the position, both of which are very good possibilities, there will be appropriate hearings held before her approval. The president has wisely avoided that for now and allowed her to put both feet through the door.

Thanks, I like you as well:rolleyes:.

I said the idea is good, the way it may be attempted is not. The Dems. hate when the Republicans play this way, they have a chance here to not behave the same way.
