No, don't give me 'American' any day ... except for a very few.

As for the Brits, well - I don't know about 'sexy' - but I suppose you could rate them on a scale of 1 - 10. Many are very pleasant to listen to, some aren't. Dropping right off the scale of awfulness, however, is the bloody execrable "Estuary".

Interesting thread:
There are a lot fewer English Accents in the US in proportion to the territory they are spread over, than in England. (New York/New Jersey, where I live have more though)

I know that posh means fancy
(is this different than received pronounciation?)

I know that cockney is "My fair lady" or whatever

But tell me what Geordie is.
Who would somebody outside your country have heard who speaks that way?

My thoughts:
English accents (from the perspective of a foreigner) are sexy : on women
The guys sounds kind of dweeby - sorry guys

As for men, many of the accents from the American south sound affable, open and manly to me. I would be glad to talk like that.

As for me though, I come from the same town as Joe Pesci, if that gives you any indication.

lol cockney.

Boltonian accents are the best. Its also a little known fact that Boltonians have the largest penises of all the peoples of all the worlds that have existed, do exist, and might exist in the future.

I've always found that having a Brit accent gives an air of intelligence and yes, even of sexiness.
It helps to have a posh accent, but even the less posh accents can have that effect.
(Not so much the Geordie accent, though, or the heavier Cockney. I remember once being in London and almost having to search for a translator when speaking to some of the street kids; they swallow half their syllables and the vocabulary is from some other solar system.)
Poshness is disappearing a bit, I think. Even the Queen doesn't speak with quite the lah-di-dah elevation that she had when she reached the throne.

Davey,you are from N.Z.,yes?
How does your accent compare or vary in the pronuciation to "geordie"?
A southern drawl is hardly "manly" on anyone, just "rednecky" to me. I do like the Scottish accent, since Davey reminded me!
I've lived there.
