I know the mods are under pressure lately, and I'm a huge supporter of a number of them, but this is a serious misjudgement of the mood of the site.
I also think Mitchymo should be reinstated on a trial basis, and future mods should be subject to election (a mod-approved shortlist, for members to choose from, and also the chance of de-selection if a high percentage of members call for it). I know the mods have a job to do, but accountability may temper the decisions a bit.
Seriously considering leaving immediately, if I'm not banned first.
Pretty much ditto.
I would
prefer to stick around - there are good things on this site.
But if I'm banned I'm not going to get fussed about it. We're suddenly like chickens waiting to see who is going to be taken out of the coop next and never return. The present mood is just ghastly, and a situation where a couple of April Fool's jokes get such a response is indicative of the problem. This site is supposed to support members, the good, the bad and the plain weird.
I would like to see some form of reflection period. The mods have a horrible job (I don't really understand why they choose to do it - I wouldn't). They are going to get things right and things wrong, that's life. They deserve praise for the things they get right, most of which members never even notice. But they also need taking to task when they get things wrong. Right now (active) members don't have any way of holding mods to account. And there should be some way - maybe a lesson of this period is that the site badly needs such a mechanism.
We also need to press the reset button. Basically we need to turn back the clock, which means reviewing (bad) decisions which have been made and which are driving a wedge through this site. The big issue is surely Mitchymo's banning. The only reason I can think of for not bringing him back is that this would be unsafe, eg because Mitchymo has been found to be under 18. If by chance this is correct then of course the Mods are performing admirably in the face of unreasonable criticism. But if not I cannot imagine a reason for not bringing him back on a trial.
The Mods could present some sort of "amnesty" as a positive step to resolve a problem, and would cover themselves in glory by so doing.
