Never more proud to live in Virginia. Hubby and I did our share. We called, cajoled and made sure folks knew to get out to vote. Very cohesive ground game here. At least in my area of Northern Virginia. The Dems here made full use of social media across the state. And I'd say the results speak to those efforts! YAY.

Just like with gay marriage, I never thought I'd see the ERA pass in my lifetime. Looks like I was wrong again. And I've never been so glad to be so wrong, again! Yay!

Am I the only one bloomer knotted that this hasn't happened already?

I mean, woohoo come on 2020. No whammy, no Trump second term!

The ERA should have done been locked down.

There's too many things that should have already been done generations ago..

When good things happen in my lifetime, even they took way too fucking long to happen, I celebrate a lil.

no. It should have passed while we were putting up with Anita Bryant’s ignorant hate speech.

At the risk of being Palaka Raincloud, the ERA had a ratification deadline that has long since passed. Congress would need to act to extend the deadline for the amendment to become law.
In the shadow of the Madison amendment, and using a three state method, ERA is viable without congress weighing in.

Since the Madison amendment was 202 years in ratification, the ERA, some 20 years since the deadline was imposed (ERA itself started in 1923) is contemporaneous by comparison.

If you want to entertain yourself and be educated on the topic at the same time, you can watch this

I was talking to a local politician last year. He said it came up for a vote here in Arizona and they spent the allotted time arguing about voting on it, not the actual content. They ran the clock out and put it aside until who knows when. He came really close to jumping over the railing and screaming at the legislators over it.
