He played gay on "Frasier." It was the episode where Lutes' character misunderstood Frasier Crane's friendly overtures and thought Frasier was gay. Hilarious denoument after the misunderstanding was cleared up: "But Niles, come on!"

Funny side note: Both Niles and Martin (the dad) were played by gay actors.
