Conservative Associations have been put on alert for a possible general election in early March.
Probably this alert is just being prudent. However there is a train of thought that, if at the end of this month there were a decision to hold a General Election (which takes a minimum of 25 working days for the campaign), then the government just gets on with Brexit without parliament having a say. In terms of getting a No Deal Brexit this would be a master stroke. The problem of course is that a campaign which will be ugly and the possibility of giving the UK to a Stalinist friend of terrorists who hates equally Jews and the UK.
I know the press is full of stories about No Deal being ruled out and Brexit cancelled, delayed, whatever - but I just don't see it. The system is set up for No Deal as a default. As far as I can see it needs a parliamentary majority for something to have any chance of stopping No Deal, and even then it may not be enough.
