Yes it’s common. Thank our litigious society and the need for youth and school athletic programs to get a medical release before we can participate in athletics.
It’s common for a parent to be in the room during an exam. Typically they will step into the hallway for this pert of the exam. However, most provides will have a nurse in the room for security. Being in an exam room without a witness is asking for trouble in this day.
Because children are on the insurance of parents, parents are legally able to access medical information, even for those in university. Parents have a legal right to be in the room and information cannot be withheld.
