I saw the penis pump salesman on Monday.
He is a younger guy, probably in his twenties.
He started his sales pitch. About the third sentence in, I cut him off at the knees by saying "I don't mean to be rude, but let's just cut to the chase....so how much?"
He said for the battery powered motorized version it was $550.
yes, you read that right $550. he also went on to say that the manual pump version was $260.
fellas, I am in the wrong line of work. jeesh!
he is selling the Pos-T-vac pumps:
postvac_lp_main
so the guy asked me what kinda use I had in mind for it or what the doctor had recommended:
A. pre-sexual intercourse....get the vacuum going, get an erection, then slide a cock ring off the tube and around my penis to maintain the erection
B. daily use for therapeutic purposes
the urologist had suggested just for daily therapeutic use.
so then I asked him about any scholarly peer reviewed articles that he could show me. then he said that most of the medical journal stuff were studies done on men post prostate surgery, not younger men like myself.
then he just happened to ask if I got erections at night in my sleep. I told him that I didn't pay all that much attention....hey...I'm sleeping....but I did tell him that occassionaly woke up with morning wood.
he saId that scientists theorize that men have erections at night while they are sleeping as a way to excercise or maintain the penis. (the whole if you don't use it, you lose it thing) he said men have between 3 and 6 erections per night.
then he went on to say that is what is recommended for therapeutic use with that pump. he elaborated with just to have the vacuum on for 30 seconds after reaching a full erection. after that 30 seconds, hit the relief valve and go completly flacid. then start the vacuum pump up again and once a full erection is achieved again hold that for 30 seconds. hit the pressure relief button, go completly flacid again.
do that for a total of 5 times.
he went on to say that it is meant to simulate the nightly erection activities.
to me, yeah, that makes sense.
so later when I talked to my girlfriend, I told her about that part in the conversation. I told her that I don't really recall having any sexy dreams lately. she is an RN and she replied with"you men don't have to have a sexy dream to have an erection."
I was like "WHAT!?"
she said, "yes, men have erections during REM sleep."
I said, "but, yeah, that is when you"re dreaming...during REM sleep!"
she said, "No, it just happens during REM sleep...you don't have to be dreaming something sexy!"
"oh!"
so sure enough that night I woke up a few times with a raging hard on after some plain ol'
run of the mill dreams.
I did tell him that my insurance already said that they would not pay for the pump. he was kinda shocked by that.
I will talk to my insurance again, but I doubt that will change.
$550 for maybe $20 or $30 worth of plastic....jeesh!
is it any wonder why health costs are so high? (rolls eyes)
