As in many larger cities, there are no singular examples of a "N'Awlins" dialect (as discussed in the video documentary "Yeah You Rite"), various "accents" being more influenced by growing up in particular neighborhoods ("wards"), at least for those who've lived here most of their lives.

Some local dialect known as "yatspeak" ("Where y'at") is similar to a kind of Brooklynese. Then there is a Creole like turn of the phrases ("poifect"), and a St. Bernard Parish dialect, and a lower 9th, and the "uptown" puttin'-on-the-ritz like "air"...and so on.

My early years were influenced by hanging with kids of various races and birthplaces, so my own dialect had been distinctly different, though undoubtedly growing more similar to local jargon over the years.
