I used to have a Facebook page but deleted it. I didn't find it to be that interesting and I like my online privacy. But it was fun to occasionally log on and spend a few hours looking up people I used to know. Never did reconnect with anyone.

The issue of privacy has been brought up quite a bit. I'm not sure how Facebook is able to connect you to people you might know. There is a public group on Facebook called 'Who Visited Your Profile.' Also, if you go to YouTube and search on 'who viewed my Facebook profile', you will find videos on who has been looking at your profile.

You can't actually see who is publicly viewing your facebook page. The biggest issue with privacy that a lot of people aren't aware of is that the default privacy setting allows "friends of friends" to view the information on your page, they can see your posts and photos, everything. The issue with this is when you have "friends" on there who may have hundreds or even thousands of other people who could potentially view your info because of this default privacy setting. However, you can actually change your privacy settings so that only your "friends" can view what you post and at the end of the day no one is making you post anything on there that you don't want to.

Personally, I don't use facebook at all anymore, though I still have my profile up. The people that I have on there I either see on at least a semi regular basis or talk to on the phone, so it really doesn't do anything for me.

I just had it happen again, where some woman popped up in my, "Do you know...?" list, and I didn't know her, but looking at her profile, my answer to the question would be, "No, but I'm pretty sure I blew your husband."
That answer might probably give you even more attention from FB`s women

I guess it's somewhat about relationships...

Anyway... I pop into the app on my phone, and there's always "New", and "People You May Know". Both of these scare me, because I don't know how they're connecting me with those people. I know, they harvest everything on my phone, but what about when I don't have any, zero, nada, zilch info about them on my phone, or anywhere. How are they doing it then? Don't get me wrong, because some of these people I actually know, or see around, and wish I knew them, but I'm sure I don't have any of their info.

Lately, a couple of people that I may have "spent time" with, have started to appeared. It's been interesting to learn more about these people than their sexual practices. Some things I didn't really want to know, typically about their family situations, such as that they even have families. Today, a new twist popped up, under "New". Under "New", there's their tiny preview pic, and the message, "<your name>, do you know <their name>?" I don't, but I look anyway. In her pic, I see that, no, I don't know her, but if that's her husband, I wouldn't say that I really "know" him either, but I have had my tonsils examined by his dick.

I've had several people from here, or people that I figured out were from here, show up in my feed. That's been interesting too. Mainly, a few moments like: "So THAT'S what they look like..."; or "Wow, they're only a mile away..."; or "If they're in a relationship with HIM/HER, why are they constantly looking to hookup on the site?"; etc.

Has anyone else noticed this lately?

At one time my job included data harvesting. As far back as 2002 we had software that was set to capture and review anything passed on the Internet including graphics. For example if we were interested in knowing who associated with whom (lets say people who dealt drugs) then we could have the system work through both still and motion videos using face recognition “miners”. If the individuals had been photographed together we would be provided with a number of these “proximity” or “intuitive” reports.

The programs could also rationalize text type messages. You could have the content of the Bible rationalized into one short paragraph.

That was 25 years ago. Can you imagine what they can do today?

For example, if you have ever register for a baby shower or wedding at Target, just think about what kinds of information you give up about yourself. And if you respond to the request, (even with an in-store purchase) they have your information and can make assumption that you are connected to:

--Others on the list
--Your Location / address
--Products purchased / purchase history
--Your credit history and financial affiliations
--Driver license information – and if you live in Texas this means they show who lives in your household with a license as well as who your next door neighbors are if they have a license. (Thanks to a database compiled for the auto insurance companies in Texas so they can control others who might drive your car)

Insidious is the best word to describe it.
