Before I stopped shaving, I was using a Norelco. One or two passes did not do the job; it took almost countless passes.

This is very true. I use my Philips shaver (same as US Norelco) and I have to go over my face numerous times to get it smooth. I tighten my face with one hand and shave with the other. I then use a facial cream, let it absorb then go over my face again with the shaver. That usually does it.

I must say, shaving with a regular blade (in the shower) takes half the time and usually does a better job.

I went from a Gillette Mach III to a Philips electric shaver. Definitely dont get as closer shave as with the mach 3 but its much quicker. Like the above posters have said though, I find the smoothness only lasts a few hours which is a bit annoying. For a quick shave though, I can't complain at my electric shaver.

Over the years I've tried it all electric foils and rotary heads and disposable single to five blade razors, none ever worked.I was always burned and there was still stubble. Now I use a straight razor that lets me control the angle and pressure and when it starts to dull I can resharpen it instead of buying new blades when they dull.I used to spend $200. a year on the disposable stuff my new straight razor cost $85. plus $8. a year for real shave soap.So now a close no burn shave costs me $8. dollars a year!

There is however a learning curve to using a straight razor. This is where I learned how it all works.

And where I bought my new razor.

There is nothing more satisfying then allowing your trusted barber to first of all trim your beard and then use a cut throat razor to bring your beard lines back into shape, a good one can make the lines look dramatic, giving an alarmingly well groomed look about a man

and guess what, cut throat razors dont need the expensive blades although mine uses the disposable blades that he snaps into two for inserting then disposing of, why did those become unfashionable? they were well made, a pleasure to use and lasted a long time.

is it because gillette or wilkinson sword werent making enough money out of us?

The blue Gillette Fusion Glide, and gel shaving creme (which most importantly) you apply with a good horse hair shaving brush. Before going to bed, wash and moisturize your face. If you do this, you'll have the closest most comfortable shave and soft skin that the ladies will love (or guys whatever the case may be).

I'm glad that some guys who previously had trouble shaving have found satisfactory solutions. However, it's unfortunate that guys with shaving problems feel compelled to shave. There is something wrong with our culture when it forces upon so many men an unnecessary procedure that, for many men, creates serious problems. And, it may be that many men have no real choice but to shave since if they don't, their careers may actually be in jeopardy.
