In tonight's news conference Obama claimed that :

" Obviously I didn't anticipate the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression-" Barack Obama

Really? In March 2007, Obama Called on Paulson, Bernanke to Address Economic Crisis - Jason Leopold, The Public Record

specifically Obama's economic advisor stated on the campaign trail:

Obama was aware of the nation's economic problems before they reached a crisis point, Furman said.
"He sent a letter to Bernanke and Paulson in March 2007, warning about the mounting foreclosure crisis and the consequences it would have for our economy," Furman said.
By suggesting a summit to deal with that issue and proposing new regulations, Furman said, Obama has urged changes in how the nation approaches the credit slump.
NPR, Morning Edition Sept. 18, 2008 - Adviser: Obama Won't Second-Guess The Fed

Let's get the facts straight on this spending and the deficit. Obama is attempting to rewrite history and frame it so that can he weasel his way out of responsibility. No can do, Mr. President.

It was nothing more than predictably transparent maneuvering to prolong having to 'own' the mess. He won the election on the economic crisis; of course he knew what he was getting into.

Trinity, this is like trying to convince the guys in the fictitious stories forum that girls prefer average sized penises. You can't change anyones mind here... Why do you bother with this? Do you get mad, or excited about people constantly insulting you for your political views? Do you enjoy it?

I am seriously curious :-/

So Trinity, do you think we should do nothing about the economy as prescribe by the Republican? And keep making the rich richer as it has been laid out for last 20 years?

What's wrong with the rich getting richer? The poor have been getting richer too, on a family by family basis. It's confusing, but check it out.

CONTEMPORARY ECONOMIC MYTHS

While that may be true, the rich are getting richer at a faster rate. When the top and bottom economic rungs grow their wealth at similar rates, that is when the economy really does well. However, the rich during the Bush II years (and Bush I and Reagan) had their wealth grow at a much faster rate than the poor, while during the Clinton years, the rates were fairly close.

No arguments there...but Bush is gone.

But his mess still smears us all. He left the US just as he left Texas: screwed, blued, tattooed, and deeply in debt.

As bad as the deficit is, and I agree it's out of control, but it has been since Bush, imagine what life would be like with 25%+ unemployment. That is what we would have without government filling the coffers when capitalists run out of capital.

Do you think that 250,000 per year is rich?

Not rich, but still life changing money for poor people. :biggrin1:
Even if 50% of a person's gross income was taken away through taxes, something is wrong if one couldn't take care of their financial duties for their family with the remaining $125K.

The average per family in America is around $45,000.
And many people, single or with families, make less.
Yet somehow they manage to survive, work hard like everyone else and keep a positive credit rating. How come someone who makes more than 5x that average has financial issues?

Obama ran his entire campaign on that sentence you wrote. Obama actually continues to talk about how horrible the Bush Administration was. The entire 2008 Presidential election was about the mess created. Republicans in Congress didn't even want Bush to campaign for them his political clout was so diminished and the Republican brand has been severely damaged. Obama knows it, the American people know it, and the Republicans certainly know it.

Now...starting on Jan. 20th, 2009 began the Obama Administration. Obama is responsible for his decisions and the affects his Administration and his Party have on this Nation. The OP and the Articles clearly point out that despite Obama's attempt to reframe history to provide himself an excuse to use in the future when the polls start changing, Obama fully understood the job when he campaigned to be President.

Obama was fully persuaded and hammered it home to the American people that he would be better than Hillary Clinton who described the job as needing "another Clinton to clean up after another Bush." Obama stumped repeatedly on the campaign trail that he was experienced enough, prepared enough to "hit the ground running" to address these massive promblems facing our nation "on day 1." Obama stressed that his plans and economic policies were the best way to turn around our Nation from the Bush era.

Obama cannot claim he didn't know the severity of the economic crisis.:nono: Obama certainly cannot blame Bush for the current continued increase in the Deficit, out of control Spending, Pork and Earmarks. Obama's Administration's decisions during the first 100 days and even while Senator acting with the Majority Democratic Party are now a part of the problem instead of the solution.

As bad as the deficit is, and I agree it's out of control, but it has been since Bush, imagine what life would be like with 25%+ unemployment. That is what we would have without government filling the coffers when capitalists run out of capital.

Obama knew and understood the problems of the economy. Obama's campaign platform had a "BluePrint for Change." Obama specifically stated that he did not believe in leaving future generations burdoned with debt.

Obama's Remarks on Fiscal Responsibility on the Campaign Trail

Obama stated that every one of his proposals was paid for by creating revenue or cutting costs in budget. Obama continues to run up debt with his proposals to quadruple it (according to the AP article) then Obama is using double talk and creative accounting to claim he will cut the new higher debt amount in half.

Read the article: Obama is going beyond "one time" emergency "charges" with his spending. And his one time emergency charges - his half of TARP and the Stimulus Bill have to operate under the correct economic policy and be managed correctly so that they don't end up costing the American Tax Payer more and actually stimulate the economy and create and save jobs. But in addition to the one time emergency charges, Obama is running up more debt.

Obama's budget of high ticket items is not paid for by generating revenue or cutting costs as he promised and his budget is adding to the deficit in one of our weakest times as a nation.

An AP article masquerading as "hard news" by using FACT CHECK in the title. I guess that would fool a pre-teen.

AP is the oldest and largest news organization in the world. AP has won 49 Pulitzer prizes.

Or an internet troll trans.

trans buckaroo, since you joined the peanut gallery on a silly statement that makes you look silly too.

Except it isn't. It's the oldest and the largest in the US.

It's arguably (since Thompson-Reuters claim the size crown too) the largest globally, but not the oldest. Remember also that until recently, Reuters wasn't a US agency either.

As for quality, well [Pulitzers notwithstanding] I think AP has some ground to make up. Given this is a thread citing an AP report with FACT CHECK in its title, I find the above somewhat ironic, if unsurprising.

Indeed.

Yeah, which makes the emergence of a clear bias in AP reporting in recent years all the more sad.

A Study of Bias in the Associated Press | Project Censored

Clear bias in reporting? What bias are you specifically referring to from that link that in any way supports your assertion that AP masquerades at presenting hard news?

Your own link states:

The Associated Press is a not-for-profit cooperative wire service for news at a national and global level. The mission of the AP is “to be the essential global news network.” It boasts of “distinctive news services with the highest quality, reliability and objectivity with reports that are accurate, balanced and informed.” The AP has 242 bureaus worldwide that delivers news report 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to 121 countries in 5 languages including English, German, Dutch, French, and Spanish and has 3,700 employees. In the US alone, 1,700 daily, weekly, non-English, college newspapers, and 5,000 radio and television stations receive the AP. The AP reaches over a billion people every day via print, radio, or television. Internationally, the AP has 8,500 subscribers.

The AP Board of Directors is made up of 22 newspaper and media executives including the Presidents/CEOs of ABC, Cox News, McClatchy, Gannett, Scripps, Tribune, Hearst, Washington Post and several smaller/regional newspaper chains. Two directors are members of conservative policy councils including the Hoover Institute and the Business Round Table. Three are on the board of directors of Mutual Insurance, and one is on the board of the world’s largest defense contractor, Lockheed Martin.

The Associated Press, as the largest news service and trusted by most news outlets your statement was not only unfounded, it was ridiculous.
