I'd like to see if there was an island close to the uk that belonged to argentina...
The channel islands are between England and France and we have argued over them for centuries. I think they are closer to France than England, but we got them. Is that a precedent?

Maybe. Pretty sure channel islanders would not want to become part of France. Of course, each of the main Channels Islands also has it's own parliament etc and not strictly speaking part of the UK (even though they come under the Crown).

.... although the Faulkands are MUCH further way from Argentina than the Channel Islands are from England.

We only got em cos it was part of Norman territory when they invaded us! lmao.

So... it's their own fault (France).

The Channel Islands are part of the Duchy of Normandy. The Queen rules as Duke of Normandy (the male title is used).

The Channel Islands have self determination - a very substantial measure of independence for both Jersey and Guernsey, and a distinctive Anglo-French culture. They are outside the EU.

So does that mean we are now entitled to argentina because they invaded us?
LOL!

Well - I'm not sure their claim is any more valid than ours - since it's based on the Pope allocating all islands west of the mid-Atlantic to Spain in 1494. This is a colonial claim, no? - which they're perpetuating since they claim it passed onto them when they got independence.

Grrr.

Argentina needs to be looking at the rights of indigenous people living in their territory. These submerged people frequently have a pretty rough ride. Argentina needs to be looking at the treatment of non-Hispanics within their territory, for example the Welsh community in Patagonia. The world might see all these issues as for Argentinians to sort, but as Argentina is saver rattling over the Falklands they rather thrust them into the world's attention. For example there is a case for some sort of regional autonomy for the Patagonian Welsh along with active support of their Welsh language and their Protestant heritage - both threatened by Spanish and Catholicism.
