No, he wasn't a pro. He was a benchwarmer in 3rd and 4th division and was what is called a semi-pro. So he got paid, but football wasn't his primary job.

And he definitely wasn't famous. The only reason that this is a news item, is because it is impossible to out yourself as a homo in the football world.

I vaguely remember a brittish player commiting suicide after he outed himself because of the pestering from various people.
