Hi, attending a black tie themed party, but want to stray away from the suit idea - feel it’ll be overdone and a bit boring! Tried a lace shirt but couldn’t style it correctly. Open to any out the box suggestions, thank you!

Poet shirt looks to me a bit to sissified for a man to wear imho, but since I have not worn that type of clothing in many years I have no better idea for you..I do agree with what you say, "not necessarily my style but i appreciate the input! truly can’t think of anything, might as well order my suit now! x" . Black tie means exactly that. You can create some individuality with your pocket square, vest and cuff links, but that's what black tie means. The idea is that men are uniform, allowing the ladies to stand out and shine. Not currently the way things are often done now, but there was reason behind it.
