I'm English, why would I spell it alphabeticize? If you were going under the patio I wouldn't ask if you wanted to, all you'd feel was the sharp edge of the machete cutting you into chunks :)

Here's my top 10 (or 13):

-Ani DiFranco
-Aimee Mann
-Bebel Gilberto
-Corrine Drewery (Swing Out Sister)
-Deana Carter
-Dominique Durand (Ivy)
-k.d. lang
-Kate Bush
-Kimm Rogers
-Sade
-Suzanne Vega
-Teena Marie
-Tracey Thorn (Everything But The Girl)

Tracey Thorn and k.d. lang have the most beautiful voices of anyone on my list. But it's tough to beat the songwriting and guitar playing of Ani DiFranco and Suzanne Vega.

  • Deboarh Harry My favorite of all. Her uniquely languid voice is always soft no matter if singing torch or hardcore.
  • Kate Bush The original ethereal girl
  • Billie Holiday Singing my favorite jazz song
  • Kiri te Kanawa Finest soprano in the world. Ever. Listen to her sing Strauss. She owns this.
  • Loreena McKennitt For the other side of midnight.
  • Ella Fitzgerald Singing my favorite jazz song with Louis Armstrong! Don't miss it!
  • Mahalia Jackson "Not a stylist??" Do I ever disagree!
  • Kim Wilde The slight vulnerability in her voice gets me.
  • Annie Lennox Such strength and feeling!
  • Elizabeth Straton (sorry, no video)
  • Aretha Franklin Nobody dominates an entire genre of music except this woman.
  • Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson in harmony is one of the finest sounds in contemporary music. Awful video, exceptional taste in music (if nothing else).
  • Edith Piaf If you don't know her, this is what the hype is about.
  • k.d. Lang As close to Patsy as possible and great in her own right.
  • Patsy Cline I don't like country but I love Patsy. What a voice!
  • Grace Jones Mmmmmm. She can't act but who cares?
  • Bjork Delightfully pure voice while altogether insane
  • Judy Collins A true voice of wonderful timbre and exceptional clarity.
  • Renata Tibaldi (sorry, no video)
  • Eartha Kitt Piaf's successor
  • Donna Summer The Queen of Disco and one hell of a voice.
  • Nana Mouskouri- Watch this. Pure. Luminous. Stunning. The Nightingale of the Hellenes. Incomparable.

BONUS: Nana Mouskouri singing Black Coffee!

I love K.D. Lang and forgot about Nina Simone and Dory Previn. The other 3 are obvious list toppers and I did not want to waste space.
I know I have to turn in my gay card, but I've never been a fan of Judy or Liza, Babs is OK, Madonna and Cher are barely mediocre, and I cannot stand Mariah or Whitney...

the greatest vocalist of the 21st century ......ladies and gentlemen i give you MARIAH CAREY
Ewww...

Gjorg, I suppose I should add Bonnie Raitt to the list, since I didn't see her on anyone else's. Little red-headed white girl sho can sing da blues!

Yes x7.....I agree, though I would add that I can't STAND Streisand. It wouldn't matter what her voice was like. Her personality ruins it.

And love Bonnie Raitt.
