hey camchain....thanks! someone besides me knows of d.t. A friend of mine i used to work with told me back around 2000 (i'm guessing) that i might like a band called dream theater. picked up their live dvd at best buy and when i played it, my jaw dropped open. i said, 'no, nobody can be THAT good." haven't stopped listening to 'em since. they revived my musical spirit!

I have soooo many favorite bands, you can't ask me to name them all. I go in phases where I will listen to a certain band exclusively. Right now I am really getting into AC/DC, Back in Black is a masterpiece.

But I am a die hard Metallica fan. They will always be my number one favorite band.

I like ELECTRIC SIX.

Oh yes. Ive only got that one song , High Voltage (?) but my god i love. You've inspired me to look them up

I got ELECTRIC SIX's CD, "FIRE". I like Dick Valentine's lead vocals and lyrics. I like the whole retro camp rock sound style they have.

So my favorite current band has changed since I last posted... my NEW favorite is Morrissey. At the moment, I can't seem to stop singing "Dear God." Amazing song. The only videos that I can find are live, but I found a "teaser" of the song here: http://www.play.com/Music/MP3-Downl...r-God-Please-Help-Me/Product.html?aid=4450553

The full lyrics are:

I am walking through Rome
With my heart on a string
Dear God, please help me

And I am so very tired
Of doing the right thing
Dear God, please help me

There are explosive kegs
Between my legs
Dear God, please help me

Will you follow and know
Know me more than you do
Track me down
And try to win me?

Then he motions to me
With his hand on my knee
Dear God, did this kind of thing happen to you?

Now I'm spreading your legs
With mine in-between
Dear God, if I could I would help you

And now I am walking through Rome
And there is no room to move
But the heart feels free

The heart feels free
The heart feels free
But the heart... feels free

The heart feels free

OPETH!!!

I hate death metal as a genre (though I will confess myself a metal fan) but these guys create some music which is absolutely nothing short of beautiful, and it's not accurate to simply call it death metal anyways. Try to get beyond the death metal vocals later in the song and see how it adds to the emotional aspect of it.

The second starts off deathy, but changes to clean about 3 minutes in. The backing vocals in it are Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree, if anyone is familiar (he produced the album. In both cases, listen to the melodies created by the other instruments, as part of the point of the vocals in general is to be a way to deliver lyrics and mood while not distracting from the melodies created by the other instruments.

and

TOOL!!!!!!!!!

L

Yeyah! I'm not one of those "OMG Tool is the best, more artistic creative and musical bands in the world" types, far from it, but I definitely like them. I will credit them with awakening me to the power rock music can evoke. Lateralus was the reason I taught myself guitar and delved deeply into music when I was in 8th grade in 01-02
