Right now my favorite band has got to be I Fight Dragons...
Not very well known, they are a NES-Rock/Chiptune band from Chicago, frankly if you are nerdy you will probably love them, but even if you aren't they are damn good and worth a listen.

I think most groups and artists go through stages when they are more, or less, appealing than other times. Don't know how many times I've thought one album (or even a single) was fantastic, and then I continued to buy their material only to be disappointed because it never came up to the previous performance.
