Am I the only one who dislikes the mayo-tomato combo?
When I make sandwiches with tomatoes I use fresh bread, butter, some good ham, white cheese and tomatoes on top with some frsh basil to taste;)

ElliP reminded me how much I love reuben sandwiches; so I had one for lunch on dark pumpernickel (it was heaven) I've been popping TUMS since I got home. (But it was worth it. I had a Dr. Brown's Cream Soda too)

I'm with you Luka. Perhaps it is a European thing. You wouldn't put mayo on a pizza, would you anyone?

I wouldn`t, but I have seen it happen!
If you go to Montenegro during summer, you could see pizza stands with two bottles - ketchap and mayo!!!
I have seen it Belgrade, too. But all in all, people don`t use it often, at least not people I know.
I love mayo, just not with tomatoes.

Nutella and banana.

Cheese (block, not processed single slices muck) and jam (especially blackberry).

As for mayo.....bleurgh on anything! I hate it - especially when some fucker puts it on my chicken burger!

DID I FUCKING ASK FOR IT?!?!?! NO!!!!!

*men in white coats rush and tackle willow78 to the ground and inject him with 'happy juice'*

All.....better.....nowwwww.....

Wide Italian bread cut horizontally, opened up and sprinkled with olive oil.
Layer of cotto or genoa salami
Layer of provolone cheese
Toasted in hot oven,
Layer of sliced tomato
Layer of shredded lettuce that was soaking in olive oil.
Salt, Pepper.

This is the classic "regular" grinder from New London Ct, where it was invented. It can be found all over southeastern CT, and RI.

The bread is special such that it stands up to the olive oil, and the thin crust is so hard it cuts the roof of your mouth.

It might not be fancy, but with the right ratio of ingredients, this is a really great sandwich.

Elsewhere it might be called an Italian sub, but accept no substitutes.
