Elfman : Beetlejuice (His first big hit)
Glass: The Hours
The Soundtrack to "Civil War" or "Baseball" the series by Ken Burns
John Williams: Greatest Hits 1969-1999 or John William By Request

And my hidden gem which I share with you all now- and is still available on Amazon....

The Carl Stalling Project: Music From Warner Brothers Cartoons 1936-1958.
It's a CD that was released in 1990 and features music from classic Warner Brothers cartoons. The liner notes are great but the oening track is the most amazing and context setting part. It's a live 1951 recording of Carl Stalling and orchestra in the studio recording "Putty Tat Trouble" for a Tweetie cartoon. You can hear the click track in the background, the conductor refining the sound on multiple takes, the orchestra grumbling with each take. It's an amazing CD. The rest of the CD is a compilation of some of the classic moments of Carl Stalling's musical genius as a cartoon scorer. There is a Volume 2 as well, which I don't have but looks equally as good.

Sounds interesting.

After Stalling retired in 1958 and the job was taken over by Milt Franklyn, the difference is pretty obvious. But not all the pre-'58 cartoon music was by Stalling. A noteworthy (sorry) exception was Three Little Bops, which just happens to be here -

YouTube - The Three Little Bops

Vocals by Stan Freberg, music credited to Shorty Rogers. Great item, in a 1957 sort of way.

Speaking of Milt Franklyn, I do count these among my favourites.

Well, if camp is allowed I have to say "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"

And for a time warp back to the eighties "Grosse Pointe Blank"

Strictly for laughs, "Team America", fuck yeah!

Other faves are "Judgement Night", "Strange Days", "Songs of the Witchblade" (soundtrack to a comic book series), and any James Bond theme.

GOLDFINGER: the action and suspense and score blended perfectly.

A PATCH of BLUE: poignancy

The Godfather: time and place, danger, Italian flavor....

So many more...isn't it amazing how a movie score can shape and enhance the experience?

STAR WARS
For me, no movie has surpassed the excitement I felt seeing Star Wars as a little kid in the 70s--it was HUGE. I saw it too many times to count and yet still love watching it as an adult (Empire too). A few of the scores still give me goosebumps.

Others that come to mind (I'm not a huge moviegoer):
West Side Story
The Sound of Music
Grease
The Graduate
American Beauty

An all time favorite score of mine is Rodney Russell Bennet's Lady Caroline Lamb soundtrack. The movie was a bomb, but the music is stunning. It exists in its soundtrack form, and also in a work for viola and orchestra—Elegy for Lady Caroline Lamb. It is comparable to the score for Somewhere In Time, although Lady Caroline Lamb is a much richer and diverse score.

Some other favorite movie soundtracks: The Lion In Winter, Sabrina, Ever After, Brokeback Mountain (the orchestral tracks, if you can get the Academy Award demo there are some extra orchestral tracks not included on the soundtrack.)

Now that I am thinking of this, I will probably come up with many more. I'm warming up to pitch!
