Saw THE MIST on DVD recently and didn't like it. The ending where they guy shoots his friends and son and has no bullets left for his brain, only to discover that after he gets out of the SUV that the Mist is lifting and the US Army is going into the town they left, was an absolute downer.
There was no discussion or waiting or a sense of proportion. It was done to leave a bad taste in your mouth. When you abandon hope its a bad sign that the film maker is not listening. Could have ended it with the people in the SUV all staring at the gun, the kid becoming aware of the situation, and figuring it out, and to bolt from the SUV, and the others in tow to rescue him. The kid gets picked up by the Army and the others discovered a few minutes later.
