Marina And The Diamonds - an amazing clip with a damn good song to go with it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwfCjYv7gVQ

The Fruit Pastilles - I posted this link on another thread:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FrhVuOPHfQ

My fave Oz band of all-time is The Dugites - so many clips of theirs on YouTube it would take too long to list them all. You'll have to search for them yourself.

...and finally, here's a little something guaranteed to piss off anyone who hates novelty songs. Use it to annoy your friends!

This might be a stretch for this site, but I'm interested in what folks have discovered in this ever-expanding archive of amazing performances. I'll watch yours if you watch mine! Although the singer is not my fave and the two songs are normally quite boring, this is the most mind-blowing performance I've yet found:
YouTube - Anita O'Day

The audience starts out with expressions that say "what the fuck IS this?" but by the end they adore Anita. And the audience shots are fantastic-- I was obsessed by sunglasses as a toddler and this reminds me why. If this thread dies without a single person adding a clip, that is OK but I do hope at least one person clicks on this link. I watch it and see the toddlers in the audience, and wish my parents would have taken me to events like this at the age of three.

Yes, I agree that youtube is becoming a fantastic archrive. I enjoyed everything about this clip of Anita O'Day. Her performance is sublime and the cinematography and editing of this film is fantastic. It really puts you in the audience. I am transfixed by the elegance of her dress, gloves and hat. Equally, I loved watching her mouth, eyes and other facial expressions. Her voice is a beautiful musical instrument.

Here is outstanding performance by Alan Cumming I came across on local TV in Australia. I am so grateful to the person who posted it on youtube so that i can enjoy it whenever i like. I think it something that many people will relate to male, female gay and straight.

cheers,

This is one of my favorite performances on YouTube. Yma Sumac, performing "Tumpa" in Secret of the Incas. It was a corny, adventure movie from the 50's starring Charlton Heston.

I've never in my life heard anyone sing like this! The way she goes from this low, bellowing growl to these insane birdcall vocals. SO crazy.

Not exactly pop, but still 2 minutes of jaw-dropping awesome.

I also um, LOVE this song "Rip It Up" by Orange Juice. I've been playing it kind of non-stop all morning.
