I love to cook and have been doing so since I was in junior high. Cook books to me are like the great American novel....will buy a bunch of them and read them from cover to cover...have over 300 of them and yes I do cook using those recipes.
Having said that I love the cooking shows but see them more for the entertainment value rather than anything else.
Paula Dean and her sons are fun, Duff from the Ace of Cakes show is totally whacked and has a great sense of fun, Bobbie Flay is well just so darn full of himself it gets to be annoying. Rachael Ray is perky but her voice is annoying, love Giada DeLaurentiis because she is Italian and she is good.
Love Tyler Florence, especially the show where he travelled and learned how different cultures made similar dishes and they created his own based on that. That is my style, I love to research and pull five recipes for the same thing and work from there. Colette the Cake Lady doesn't have a show but oftentimes she pop on on the competition shows and her work and imagination are inspiring. Curtis Stone is the Take Home Chef and that to me says it all just take him home and have fun sex with him. Oh and the NapaStyle guy, my mind is a blank probably because I have blanked him out on purpose, he is so smarmy and sleazy to me...ugh. NIgel Lawson is a domestic goddess but I'd rather just listen to her than try her recipes. She makes it sound so sexy and fun. Oh and as for fun the Two Fat Ladies was a fantastic fun show, miss that one so much. And Alton Brown is great to fill in the technical hows and whys that makes cooking more than just throwing some slop together, although I don't find him sexy. Now as for the Iron Chef America, I am more intrigues and fascinated by the competitors that the Iron Chefs themselves, though I like Chef Cat Cora the best.
Personally, although she has no cooking show, I love Marcella Hazan.
Okay, enough, time to hit the kitchen.
