Since we have a "favorite superhero" thread here, I thought it would be appropriate to add a favorite villain one. My favorite villains tend to be utter monsters, having little or no redeemable features. Along with by their presence alone, they evoke fear, revulsion, or hatred. Making the audience (myself, in this case) root for the hero of the tale. For me, if I'm rooting for the villain more so than the hero, I don't see that character as a "great" villain. A great character, but not a great villain. From movies, it's Captain Vidal from Pan's Labyrinth. I can't remember a villain in recent history that is more ruthless, sadistic, or chilling as him. His actions dwarf those committed by the actual monsters in the film.Briefly seen here. From video games, Curtis Blackburn from Killer 7. Yet again, chilling, ruthless, sadistic, and completely irredeemable. His intro is him murdering a prostitute, sipping on some wine before going into a building, and murdering 5 others, out of shear boredom (Seen Here). And that is minor compared to the other acts he committed throughout the game. Along with SHODAN from the game System Shock. A megalomaniac supercomputer that constantly reminds you of how inferior you are to her. All being said with a stuttering, chaotic, malfunctioning voice. (heard here) Edit, forgot to add Marlo Stanfield from the Wire. Compared to the other characters in that show that are just various shades of gray, he's the "darkest" character on the show. Only concerned with his fearsome reputation and gaining wealth, his casual attitude toward violence and other heinous acts, along with considering those acts above all other ones when it comes to dealing with other characters, makes him (and his crew) pretty terrifying. (Seen here) So, what are your favorite villains in entertainment?
