Cover versions are often sneered at & seen as an easy option. True, certain acts have relied far to heavily on them to sustain their careers.

However, there have been a few notable cases where the cover version has totally eclipsed the original. Maybe the song was just more suited to the style & personality of the new performer?

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE COVER VERSIONS?

Here's a few stunning female covers to start with.....

YouTube - Leona Lewis-Run (Live Lounge)
YouTube - Amy Winehouse - Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow
YouTube - Keisha White - The Weakness In Me

Ill post a few male ones later....

It's hard to pick my fav's... mostly because the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and the Beatles recorded many covers and had hit after hit with them.

Although, who can forget the Flying Lizards cover of the motown hit "Money"?

or John Lennon's cover of Woody Guthrie's "Working Class Hero"?

The recent Green Day version was absolute rubbish.

I don't really like the poor production value, but the Foo Fighter's version of Gerry Rafferty's classic "Baker Street" is pretty awesome.

Great choice on Lauren Hill!!! I've been busting out my fugees lately... "You got the vocab?"

Hendrix pwnd this song. Dylan, admiringly, admitted as much.

One of the absolute GREATEST covers of all time.

That was FANTASTIC! I would put that up there with "Phil Collin's You Can't Hurry Love"

I would have to agree with you on that one, but I'm a huge Johnny Cash fan anyways.

Metallica - Turn the Page
Metallica - Turn The Page

Shinedown - Simple man (video is an amazing live performance)

Shinedown-Simple Man(Live)

Guns n Roses - Live and Let Die

Guns N Roses - Live And Let Die
Nice selections!
The GnR versions of Live and Let Die and Knockin' On Heaven's Door live from the Troubadour around 1989 are amazing!

I'm very into Bob Seger's version of TTP, but admit Metallica really did a fine cover.
