However, are the people of the USA really progressive? It seems very finely balanced and if you run a progressive policy without remembering that nearly half of people are not with you then you always run the risk of a backlash.
Given that, you need a friendly face to the centre right. Hillary was not this, yet she was just about chosen by the Party.
The Clintons are incredibly wealthy. Wealth that has only come from Politics. They also run a multi billion foundation which bolsters their political power though I imagine donations may dry up now.
I tried to make the point that Trump had hijacked what should have been a Democrat policy, namely controlling the bulldozing effects of globalisation. Bernie would have done this, but Hillary said nothing. Trump took up this flag and it resonated with the 50% of Americans who are poorer now than they were 15 years ago.
The ultimate responsibility of a Head of State is the prosperity of the people. Trump offered a vision for this, Hillary did not.
