After a quite brief lull in which it was apparent that NO ONE ON EARTH was receptive to the kind of Chicken Little b.s. that has been the stock in trade of the "Right" for so long, it seems apparent that fear mongering is back in a big way. I'd guess this is mainly due to the fact that there is no other issue the repubs feel comfortable pushing at this point. So I expect it'll be "All Gitmo, All the time" for the foreseeable future.

Foment hysteria within the "base" ranks of Limbaughians. See how many middle-of-the-roaders they can pick off and bring in to the fold. And mostly, most definitely, do whatever is possible to undermine Obama's credibility, his approval ratings, his attempts to effectively address issues and solve problems (like the economic morass, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, health care............). Keep the camera focussed on Islamic terrorists. That's got to be a winner for repubs, right? Keep the debate about dirty brown people trying to bomb us and rape our teenage blonde virgins.

That's exactly what this is all about.

Exactly... let the Christian extremists trumpet their voices against the evildoers of Islam, while they also ignore their own violent past and present. And watch as they lose yet more support and even more elections.

You'd think they would have figured this out already. However, we are talking about those who find Limbaugh to be "entertainment".

A good example of this was Jesse Ventura on 'Fox and Friends' the other day. Jesse was arguing against torture very simply -- "It's against the LAW". (Jesse is not my favorite politician, but you have to admire his clarity sometimes.) The Fox bobblehead was incensed, and sputtered on about needing to torture because "planes were crashing into building and houses were on fire!"

I think I finally understand, these chicken hawks and torture apologists are really just scared little pussies. Or, they think that making people afraid is the path back to power.

Here's a blast from the past. Part of an article dated December 24, 2003:

As people around the World prepare to celebrate Christmas, in a a spirit of peace and communion, the Bush Administration has put America on high risk terror alert. On December 21st, four days before Christmas, the Homeland Security Department, raised "the national threat level from an elevated to high risk of terrorist attack".

In his pre-Christmas Press Conference, Homeland Security Department Secretary Tom Ridge confirmed that
"the U.S. intelligence community has received a substantial increase in the volume of threat-related intelligence reports".
According to Tom Ridge, these "credible [intelligence] sources" raise "the possibility of attacks against the homeland, around the holiday season..."
"Terrorists still threaten our country and we remain engaged in a dangerous - to be sure - difficult war and it will not be over soon," warned Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld. "They can attack at any time and at any place."

This is the fifth time the Bush Administration has put the country on Orange Code terror alert since September 11, 2001.

Sorry, but an organization who hire actual scientists who research things like the environment trumps a commercialized, "for profit" site that uses distorted explanations & beliefs to discredit it. But thanks for the music... I take it you were whistling the tune, "Loser" by Beck? It's very fitting of you.

"Ozone has an absorption / emission band in the range of "blue", so that is how we'd see it with our eyes... were it thick enough to more than add a hint of blue to our sky."

The Bush administration is the same that put Yusuf Islam(formerly Cat Stevens) on the no fly list of the US airline to keep a peace loving musician from entering our country, fearing that we would start wearing a "I love a Muslim" T-Shirt.

Really How fearful can you be to a man that greets you with the first word "Peace"?????

Well, fuckup Obama screwed up once again spreading peace and open arms allowing Yusuf to come in and promote his new music. Damn those peace loving politician!!!! Damn them to hell!!!!

The problem with Obama policy is that if we instill peace in the world, then only poor people get a leg up in society, and us filthy rich end up getting screwed of having the same luxury in life as all others. Do you agree Stalinvestor?

You can be plenty fearful of Cat Stevens aka Yusef Islam, if you're Salman Rushdie. The following comes from a television interview. Islam's claim that he was misquoted is ridiculous. You can watch the interview yourself:
Robertson: You don't think that this man deserves to die?
Y. Islam: Who, Salman Rushdie?
Robertson: Yes.
Y. Islam: Yes, yes.
Robertson: And do you have a duty to be his executioner?
Y. Islam: Uh, no, not necessarily, unless we were in an Islamic state and I was ordered by a judge or by the authority to carry out such an act - perhaps, yes.

[Some minutes later, Robertson on the subject of a protest where an effigy of the author is to be burned]

Robertson: Would you be part of that protest, Yusuf Islam, would you go to a demonstration where you knew that an effigy was going to be burned?
Y. Islam: I would have hoped that it'd be the real thing.

He also said that if Mr. Rushdie turned up at his doorstep looking for help, ''I might ring somebody who might do more damage to him than he would like.''

''I'd try to phone the Ayatollah Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man is.'' - NY Times.
Later attempts to claim Yusef Islam was simply describing what Islamic law would say, not what he would say personally, ring wholly untrue given the nature of his statements and the direct statements as to what he would do.

The man's an asshole.

I'm going to pm you the names of the 11 people around here who are going to agree with you. You might want to send them friend requests. Then you might also want to look at some recent poll numbers as well as the election results from last fall to see the minority of Americans who share your views.

You see, what happened today in New York is that a Democratic president did exactly what John McCain and you Republicans said Barack Obama and we Democrats were incapable of: he fended off a terrorist attack and kept us safe. Put that in your fear-mongering pipe and smoke it while I sit here on my comfortably covered ass.
