Well unfortunately in the bigger cities it is hard to find decent people. I would suggest meetup.com and join one of the social gay groups in your area. There are groups for us introverts as they say like gay geeks, gay sci-fi buds, gay foodees.... and let it organically happen. Perhaps someone with similar interests will stick?
Guard your heart and let those who won't take advantage of you in. In know in my quest for a partner I have been taken in by the wrong people. I always give them the benefit of the doubt, even after vetting them... and like you I have pretty reasonable standards. Even though it hurts and I often think it is probably my fault, I am proud of who I am cause I am a good and descent guy. I will more than likely die alone....but it will be on my terms and I no longer mind.
Don't loose hope, but don't give in either. Stand your ground and don't let anyone change who you are.
