Cheating Cheetahs caught by DNA
The absolute sluts
I always suspected - but I never had enough on them to go tell the male cheetahs!!
Been reading Yeats a bit lately have we MB?
I read that Mohammed loved cats. Legend has it that once, rather than disturb his sleeping cat, called Muezza...(aaaah) when the call to prayer sounded, in order to avoid disturbing her sleep, he cut the sleeve off his robe on which she was sleeping.
I wonder, did she pay him back for such kindness? - I bet she callously went and slept on the robe of another.
Hmmm. There's more to this one than meets the eye.
The genetic diversity of the wild cheetah population is close to zero. That means that one cheetah is, genetically, practically identical to every other cheetah. Cheetahs also have unusually low sperm counts. So, for the female cheetah to get it from all males in the area means that (1) fertilizations are more likely to occur, despite low sperm counts from any one male, and (2) the kids are going to be pretty much identical, no matter who Dad is.
And some say romance is dead!
I think the Muezza story has more appeal.
Hahaha...suddenly "baby daddy" takes on a whole new meaning...
Cats are notorious for doing whatever they want, whenever they want. I've had one that was spiteful at times, so i'd agree.
Well, it's not like Mom has to worry about losing them in the grocery store...
I was thinking along the lines of what Big D said.... cheetahs are basically genetically coded the same... so does it really matter that they have used this method.. when they aren't really any different from the next cat?
You just know that somebody's been dying to use cheating cheetahs in a headline. It's better than a story about a new gnu, but pales beside one about a bewildered wildebeest.
