I'm resurrecting this post for a few reasons...

First of all, i'm considering having a clitoral hoodectomy. Not for cosmetic reasons, but for practical reasons. I have a very small clit and a tight hood. This has caused much desensitization to the point where i dont want to masturbate much anymore because its frustrating as hell. I've always loved my orgasms and having multiple orgasms but it takes up to a few hours to even get to one, once i get past the first one it gets easier to have subsequent ones but often i stop masturbating because my clit is getting bruised from having to apply so much pressure for so long or im getting so frustrated i could cry.

I know people are going to go off on a tangent about how genital mutilation in all forms is wrong and im not for doing this to your daughters at birth or anything. I wish i didnt have to worry about this. But if things are anatomically negatively affected due to tight foreskin or clitoral hood things have to be considered. I think that male circumcision is unnecesarry in a lot of cases and i'd not have my son circumsized, unless there were problems with the foreskin. I think circumcision is mainly done for cosmetic and religious reasons at birth.

Now, i dont want to hear all sorts of rubbish about how a small clit doesnt equal less pleasure. My problem isnt my clitoris as much as its my tight hood. I've never had an orgasm through intercourse, even with direct clitoral stimulation. I'd like to enjoy masturbating and acheiving orgasms with my husband, even if its just manually. But i've stopped having him try to get me to orgasm because the pressure of getting there because it takes me so long is overwhelming.

Currently i like to pull my hood back as much as i can to directly stimulate the clitoris in order to try to cum. And no its not too sensitive to do this...i used to have a clitoral hood piercing and it never hung down and stimulated my clitoris because it didnt peak out from under the hood to enjoy it. I've thought about a vertical clit piercing next time instead of a horizontal hood piercing to help with this.

In the meantime i will be trying out some hood stretching techniques, as i've read this can give room for the clitoris to expand when engorged under there and give more sensation. I will try this and seriously consider getting pierced again before resorting to any major thing like the hoodectomy i've read about.

I wanted to get a little support and maybe help out other women who might find themselves in the same situation as me.

Before people start going off about the types of barbaric clit removal practices around the world- this is not the same thing. This is circumcision, just the removal of the hood. The hood has relatively no nerves and protects the highly sensitive glans. And mine is not the highly sensitive to need this protection. Also it builds up smegma under the hood (like all women do) but especially so and its difficult to get the hood to retract enough to clean it out. I am able to clean it but its very uncomfortable. So for hygienic reasons im also looking into this. Any woman who doesnt keep herself clean and uncircumsized men know how troublesome smegma can be. Its not a perdy thing!

If you made it this far through my post, thanks for taking the time to read about my hood issues. Now excuse me while i go get the q-tips and vaseline!

It's your choice. If it causes you pain or discomfort I guess it's okay . . . Frankly, having a scalpel anywhere down there is frightening to me.

When I googled clitoral hoodectomy I got mostly surgeons sites rather than medical definitions. The link I just referenced gives a brief description and before and after pics.

What does your hubby say? You do realize that you must abstain from sex for a minimum of 6 weeks after a surgery of this nature right.

It seems you have already made up your mind, so good luck and God Bless.

Well i just started my research. And given its considered cosmetic the insurance companies wont pay for it. Its 2,500$ plus travel expenses to the doctor in Texas. I dont have this to spend right now. Im also trying these stretching techniques first, and then piercing if that doesnt work before i resort to the surgery.

It seems like only cosmetic surgeons are talking about this. I plan on bringing it up to my Gynecologist when i go in for my yearly in a few months. Im sure by then i will know how these other things are working.

Ahh as for a scalpel near my crotch. After a urethral meatotomy....anything like this is easy. Its an outpatient, in office 15 minute procedure with local numbing. Unlike a urethral meatotomy, i wont be pissing on the fresh wounds!

My ass, vagina, urethra and hood are all very small. A scalpel near my ass, now that scares the hell out of me!

Check with your GYN. Often if they write a prescription for a procedure, the insurance company has no choice but to pay for it. My doctor has done this on a few procedures for me over the years. It does also depend on the insurer and your policy type.

Let me know if I can help you on how to see if you can get the insurance company to pay for it.

No I don't think anyone is going to bash you, it's your choice whether you have surgery of any sort, in the case of fgm those girls don't have a choice. The only thing I'd say is be sure of your surgeon, once it's done you can't go back and you don't want your cunt spoiled cosmetically.

I have a very small clitoris that is located very deep under my labia majora-- I have everything tucked pretty far in from what I can tell. However, I have no problem having orgasms at all-- so I'm definitely not in the same position as you. If I were, I'd be considering the same things. The only thing that worries me is getting your clitoris pierced-- I know some women who report a loss of sensation from that particular piercing. My piercer won't do them for that reason. Have you considered a vertical hood piercing (since you've already had horizontal) before getting the clitoral piercing?

The only other concern I would have is if the problem was hormonal or psychological and not physical/mechanical. Since you've been with your husband for so long and you're very open sexually, that's probably not the case.

From what you have written, the risks sound minimal. If you thoroughly research it and feel comfortable with having the procedure done, do it. Having orgasms during intercourse is such an emotionally bonding experience for me-- and I think the hassle of having to abstain from sex for 6 weeks (which I assume you've done before because you've had a child) and pain and recovery would be worth it.

Good luck.

I want my hood done vertically, i'd never want to punch out the nerves i have with a sharp needle! Makes me wince thinking a woman would ever do that. The horizontal one was decoration and nothing more. So ive heard more positive things with the vertical. The only thing is my piercer requires you to be able to stick the end of a qtip inside of the hood. Right now im about 1/4 of the tip after some effort.

I'd definitely do the hood piercing again it wasnt painful really. Recovery was quick. I think i remember having sex same day i got it done.

My son is a body piercer and actually trained instead of just learned to do it from a friend, he also won't do clitoral piercings because he considers them too dangerous to do, if you're going for a hood piercing try a vertical one, it lies along the same direction as you do so it's a great piercing to have. Lots of women do have successful clit piercings but many piercers pierce a clit that's not big enough to take a piercing, you need 6 mm of clit free of your hood to successfully take one otherwise it can start to migrate.

If he can get the tip of a q tip under your hood successfully there shouldn't really be any problem.

When I had my hood pierced I was told not to have sex or masturbate for six weeks, but I couldn't help myself I had to masturbate within a couple of days - I used a vibrator, unfortunately the vibrations from it made the ball jiggle off the end of the bar and I almost had a tantrum trying to get the bloody thing back on, it can be tricky when you first do it :)

BedheadRed, don't be concerned about Intactivists "going off;" I will speak for Intactivists in general by stating our argument is: adult consent and medical indication. You're an adult and it's your consent, end of argument. Moreover, there appears to be medical indication.

I wish you well and I hope you find a solution to your liking.

I hope that you get good honest medical advice on this. In the meantime, I think Snoozan has just about given you the best advice that I can remember ever reading on a forum.

Well, whatever you decide to do, good luck!! :)

It's really hard for me to have orgasms as well, and can only have them from direct clitoral stimulation (and I have to be the one doing it). I never had any idea as to why it's so hard for me to orgasm, but I have always thought it must be some kind of physical problem.

I have to be the one in control of my clit or else it isnt going to happen. Today i spent well over an hour, tense, sweating and watching porn relentlessly trying to orgasm alone. Finally i got there but now i wish i would have spent my time catching up on laundry!

I know what you mean... there have been times when I've laid in bed for over an hour trying to have an orgasm and just given up... sweaty, tired, crying, and with an extremely sore clit. :(
