So I've noticed a lot of gay guys I've been talking to IRL lately have this habit of referring to themselves with female words (princess, for example) or referring to themselves and a group of other guys as "ladies." And it's not always the really outwardly effeminate one, doing it. Is there a specific reasoning behind this?

i think in this context it's just a learned term of endearment.... like the way someone calls somebody 'honey' or 'sugar'.... it's not really meant to be derogatory, but i must admit i cringe inside if someone calls me 'girl' or something of that sort.... whatever happened to a good old fashioned "DUDE!!!!"?

I admit, I've used it joking around. I used to have this gay coworker and we used to joke around a lot. And one day he was kidding with our boss and said I was slacking off, so I said, "Ok, look. There's only room for ONE princess at this quincienera, and it ain't you."

But I've also been in groups where I've been an outsider and had someone yell out, "let's go, ladies!" It's odd, to say the least.
