My argument does not rely on this mythology. Just on the idea that general mating patterns a century ago are quite different than the mating patterns emerging in large American cities, where a minority of the men have sexual access to a majority of the women during the womens' prime years (which I would define as their most fertile years - late teens to early 20s).

You seem never to have heard of Evelyn Nesbit.
