Will Fenugreek an herb increase libido and serve as an aphrodisiac for men?

The salesperson at my local health store recommended Fenugreek to control glucose levels and lower bad cholesterol. When I go home, I goggled Fenugreek and found many web sites for this herb. I copied a paragraph from one source and cited it here.

This web source states that fenugreek is also used to improve sexual performance in males. Has anyone here had an experience using this herb. If so, what were the results?

Can it replace Viagra?

Web Source:

- “Fenugreek seeds are ground and roasted and used to flavor to curry. The seeds are also soaked and then powdered and used to make lip balm and tonic. The seeds can be used to make tea, which can reduce fever and menstrual pains, or they can be used in an ointment to treat skin infections. THE SEEDS HAVE ALSO BEEN USED TO INCREASE LIBIDO IN MEN AND SERVE AS AN APHRODISIAC.. Ground seeds are often used to give a maple flavor to sweets and candies. Ground seeds are also used to flavor cattle food, including different vegetable meals and hays. Fenugreek's leaves, which are high in iron, are used in salads. Taken internally, fenugreek is used to treat bronchitis, coughs, respiratory problems, sinus conditions and to increase milk supply (see more below)”.

If you want more information, google fenugreek. There are many additional web sources that comment on this herb.

Please feel free to comment on all the effects of this herb, not just the sexual effects, though I am most interested in what the effect this herb has on the male libido and sexual performance as I am sure most other people at LPSG.

Freddie,
I think some men have used this as a means to produce more cum but have to use such a large quantity to see this result that it produces a maple syrup smell in your urine and sweat.

If you are looking to increase your libido, I would stick with Horny Goat Weed 1,000 Mg with a minimum of 10% Icarins (2 - 500 Mg caps) and take it twice per day. Take it *between* meals and not with them. Then, with ONE meal, take Arginine (1 Gram) and Zinc (30Mg). Like, with breakfast if you plan on getting lucky after dinner. You could even take another 1 Gram Arginine (but not Zinc as 30Mg per day is maximum) at lunchtime. Sticking to these doses should not produce any unwanted sides. Some men have also had some luck with Safed Musli, an Indian herb that also goes by other names, but I believe it takes a month or so to work whereas the Horny Goat Weed should only take 2 days and the Zinc/Arginine combo should work the same day.

Problem with all of these is I believe you need to cycle them. IOW, don't take each and every day or the 'ol bod seems to get use to them.

Best wishes for a happy and horny 2009!

P.S. The best substitute for Viagra is Horny Goat Weed as it is proven to work by the same mechanism of a PDE5 inhibitor (PDE5 destroys Arginine) but it also increases Arginine absorption so you get the best of both worlds *but* without any sides! Plus, Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra are not known for increasing libido but Horny Goat Weed is.

have tried it for fat-burning and weight loss

4-HYDROXYISOLEUCINE: This amino acid has been found to increase the amount of insulin released by the pancreas. "Research shows that taking 4-hydroxyisoleucine with dextrose following a workout helps to better replenish muscle-glycogen stores," O'Reilly explains. This supplement is extracted from the herb fenugreek

I follow Ayurveda, so was aware of its use in that system of pharmacology:

"Actions: stimulant, tonic, expectorant, rejuvenative, aphrodisiac, diuretic

FENUGREEK is a good herbal food for convalescence and debility, particularly that of the nervous, respiratory and reproductive systems."

After working in a health food store, in herbal medicine, it's funny that this comes up because Fenugreek is given to nursing women to help increase production of breast milk.
You are correct according to the web sites I checked. Increasing production of breast milk is listed first as the effects of Fenugreek.

I checked many different sites and two or three also listed male performance in some way. I had my reservations about it since it wasn't listed in all of them.

I bought Fenugreek at the GNC on the advice of the salesperson that I use as a consultant. Fenugreek also helps in insulin absorption. Many diabetics and heart patients take Fenugreek for that purpose. It wasn't till I got home and checked the Internet that I discovered the male sexual enhancement as a possible use.

Thanks for those who are adding suggestions that they suggest here as well. Hope others will also post either in recommending an herb or sharing that it is snake oil.

There are any number of aphrodisiacs for men, Nick4444 mentioned "long jack" in any number of posts a bit back.

yes sir, quite a few

have tried them as part of my bodybuilding regime (supposedly they also stimulate spermatogenesis, as well as testosterone)

didn't really notice an increase in libido, but definitely affected amount of ejaculate -- I used to ejaculate huge volumes

besides Eurycoma Longifolia aka longjack,
Tribulus terrestris, Withania somnifera, Lepidium meyenii known as Maca root, garlic, and more I haven't tried, or that I can't recall at the moment
